The District Attorney, a friend of the family, tries to hush up the case but the newspapers get after him for trying to shield someone. Norton is appointed special attorney of the case and Dell goes to him and tells him she was the woman at the apartment, but that she did not kill Victor. Norton believes her and is willing to keep her name out of it but the doorman, who has been summoned for questioning, recognizes her. On learning that his sister is involved, Bob at once makes a confession and is placed on trial.
She learns he comes from a wealthy family but is making his own mark in the world.
A party, including Dell, her brother Bob, her sister Corinne and Corinne’s husband, go to the apartment of Victor Linley, with whom Corinne has been having an affair. During the evening, Bob wanders into Vic’s bedroom and accidentally finds a compact with the Hamilton crest on it, under a pillow. He thinks it belongs to Dell. They play roulette and Bob loses heavily. Later he gives Vie an I. O. U. for $36,000. Dell speaks to real evidence against Bob. The only Vie and he tears it up, remarking it witness who can injure him is Dell. She is called to the stand by Norton, who accepts her statement. But one of the jurors insists on cross-questioning her and trips her up. Caught, she admits that Bob killed Vie, but takes the whole blame on herself, stating that her brother had gone there to avenge her honor. Bob is acquitted on the unwritten law.
