Cowan became president of the CBS Television Network Division on March 12, 1958. He had joined the staff of CBS, Inc. in May, 1956 in the newly-created position of vice president — Creative Services. In this capacity he was responsible for assisting Executive, Operating and Service management in obtaining maximum effectiveness in each of the company's operating divisions having to do with creative product. Mr. Cowan had joined CBS Television as a producer in August, 1955 — responsible for the creation of new ideas and new programs in coordination with the CBS Television Network's executive production staff. He is the winner of two Peabody Awards, four Ohio State Institute for Education By Radio-Television Awards, and three Variety Showmanagement Awards. Before joining CBS, Mr. Cowan had been President of Louis G. Cowan, Inc. The fifty-odd radio and television programs he has produced have included $64,000 QUESTION, MEET THE VEEP, STOP THE MUSIC, CONVERSATION, KAY KYSER'S COLLEGE OF MUSICAL KNOWLEDGE, QUIZ KIDS and others. Mr. Cowan was born in Chicago in 1909 and is a graduate of the University of Chicago. He is married to the former Pauline Spiegel and is the father of four children. <&W*y HUBBELL ROBINSON, JR. Executive Vice President in Charge of Network Programs Hubbell Robinson, Jr. was named CBS Television executive vice president in charge of network programs on March 19, 1956. Previously he had held the title of vice president in charge of network programs since July, 1951. Mr. Robinson joined CBS in 1947 as CBS vice president and director of programs. Before joining the network he had been vice president and director of radio for Young & Rubicam, Inc. In 1944, he left Y&R to join the Blue Network, now ABC, as vice president and director of programs and in 1945 he went to Foote, Cone & Belding, Inc., as vice president in charge of radio. Mr. Robinson was born in Schenectady, N. Y., on Oct. 16, 1905. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy, then Brown University from which he received his A.B. in 1927. After graduation Mr. Robinson was a reporter on the Schenectady Union Star, and later on the Knickerbocker Press in Albany. In 1928, he went to New York City to review motion pictures for the Exhibitor Herald, a trade paper. Shortly after he decided on advertising as a career and during his 16-year association went from messenger boy to vice president of the agency. ♦###*######**##< WILLIAM H. HYLAN Vice President of Sales Administration William H. Hylan was appointed CBS Television Network vice president of sales administration in February, 1957. Previously, Mr. Hylan had held the post of vice president in charge of network sales. Mr. Hylan was account executive for CBS Radio Sales until 1941. In July of that year he enlisted in the U. S. Army, remaining in the service until November, 1945, when he returned to CBS as assistant to the director of station administration. Three years later he joined CBS Television Network Sales. From 1948 to 1951 Mr. Hylan served as account executive in CBS Television Network Sales. In July, 1951, he was named assistant sales manager and in January, 1952, he was appointed Eastern sales manager. He was named to his present post in December, 1952. Mr. Hylan was born in New York City in 1915. He is a graduate of Yale University, class of 1937. In the Army, he saw service in Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Greece and Austria with the Counter-intelligence Corps and the Office of Strategic Services. Mr. Hylan is married and has three children, a boy and two girls. His home is in Westport, Conn. 789
