TV PERSONALITIES
FRED I. MAHLSTEDT. director of operations tor CBS-TV film sales, is a pioneer in the TV film industry, having a long, successful record in advertising and network operations. Before joining the CBS network he was associated with the Arthur Kudner and Erwin Wasey advertising agencies. Prior to June 1950, when Fred was singled out for the job of organizing a film syndication unit for the Columbia network, he was general sales manager for CBS spot radio and TV sales.
SANFORD SPILLMAN. film buyer and program director of KPIX, San Francisco, Calif., is a graduate of the University of California. Sandy then joined KSFO as a page boy, progressing to script writer. During the war he served as a naval lieutenant in the Pacific theater of operations, returning to KSFO as news editor. When KPIX began telecasting in 1948, he was transferred to the TV
operation as a producer and writer, filling in as director. Spillman was named to his present post in 1949.
BOB MULHALL. WOI, AM-FM-TV, Ames, Iowa, operations manager, is a graduate of Loras College in Dubuque. He was an announcer and newsman with KDTH in Dubuque before coming to WOI as news director in 1943. EDWARD A. CALLAHAN, film director of KSTPTV is a former producer-director of KSTPTV. He joined the Minneapolis St. Paul station in 1948 in the television production department, and handled telecasts of football, baseball and hockey games. While in the U. S. Marine Corps, Edward managed nine theaters at Camp Pendelton, Calif. Previous to that he acted as advance man
for the Dick Jergens Band. In, February 1952 Ed was named to his present post.
HETH MATHERS, film director of WKY-TV, Oklahoma City, Okla., took the NBC Institute course at Northwestern University, after attend ing Marshalltown Col iege. He worked as an announcer at KFJB, Marshalltown; KGLO, Mason City, la., and WMT, Cedar Rapids. Prior to joining the promotion department of WKY In April, 1947, he v/as promotion director at KIDO, Boise, Idaho. When WKY-TV went

WILLIAM V. ROTHRUM. film buyer of WSYRTV, Syracuse, N. Y., is also program director. A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Bill went to Syracuse in 1930 to join the announcing staff of WMBO, Auburn, and a few years later joined WSYR. Since that time he has worked as an announcer, sports director, and finally program director. With television added, he also took over the program director's job in
that medium. Bill was recently made a V.P. in the Central N. Y. Broadcasting Corp. which operates WSYR and WSYR-TV.
