WJZ AND WEAF CHAINS COMBINE TO GIVE BRILLIANT NEW YEAR'S PROGRAM
HIGH LIGHTS OF THE AIR
THE XEW YEAR will be ushered in with a galaxy of fine programs. Xew Year's morning the famous Pasadena Tournament of Roses floral parade nrfll be described from the microphone of KPSX, Pasaso that those in less fortunate sections of the country covered by Ice and snow can imagine I His lonely tacle. In the afternoon the tournament football game between Stanford and Alabama will also be broadcast from the Rose Bowl by the same station. Stations KFI, KXX, KOA and probably KPO will also give their listeners a birdseye view of this game.
The oldest German singing society in the country, the Hartford Saengerbund, will be presented from the studios of WTIC, New Year's day at 8:30 p. m., Eastern time. A chorus of seventy male voices will give these oldtime German folk songs.
Ail-American night marks the Balkite hour Xew Year's night over the WEAF chain. Walter Dainroacli and the New York symphony will give a program made up entirely uf works by American composers. George Gershwin will be heard at the piano in his own composition, "'Rhopsody in Blue."
The climax of the Xew Year's day programs will be the broadcast by the WJZ chain and the WEAF chain of the Victor Talking Machine company programs. Over lliis vast link of stations now called the Blue network and the Red network, the i ream of Xew York performers will entertain every section of the country. The two-hour program will be given by the world famous artists, John McCormack, tenor; Rosa Ponselle. soprano; Mischa Elman, violinist, and
Alfred Cortot, pianist. With them will be heard the Victor Salon orchestra under the direction of Nathaniel Sliilkret. Elman and Cortot will sail for Europe Immediately after this program. This will probably be the last opportunity for Americans to hear these two artists this season,
A series of historical, dramatic and musical plays based on the national balluds will be presented every Friday evening from WSBC, Chicago. The educational value of tins. is so high that principals in the schools in
Chicago have recommended to students that they listen to these between 7:15 and 8 o'clock. Everett George Opie and his players, dramatize the events preceding and leading up to the writing of each ballad. January 7 "America" will be given.
"Swing your partner — balance all!" This is the call that will hall all KOA listeners Wednesday night, January 5, when the General Electricstation broadcasts an old-fashioned quadrille from a country schoolhouse. This novel program includes selectiona by the Willow Creek quartet, informal singing of rounds, solos on the hnrmonira, fiddling *nd concludes with a barn dance.
WSM of Nashville. Tennessee,
whose m i cropl is presided over
by the Solemn Old Judge, will be off the air for the first part of this month. When this southern broadcaster reopens about the middle of January, perhaps sooner, a 5,000-watt transmitter will broadcast the celebration. The new Western Electric equipment is an exact duplicate of that of WPG.
Jack Little will spend the first week of January at WCCO. The second week he expects to be at WOW.
