"SPIRIT OF 76" TO BE BROADCAST; CANADIAN DIAMOND JUBILEE ON AIR
13
HIGH LIGHTS OF THE AIR
ALL American listeners are Invited to tune in for the Confederation Diamond Jubilee broadcast to be given over the Important Canadian stations Friday, July 1. CXRO will be the key broadcaster. The program, which begins at 10:30 p. m. Eastern daylight time, will commence with an address by His Excellency the Governor General. Two artists well known to Radio fans through their broadcasting during the National Broadcasting company's Sunday program, Eva Gauthier and Allan McQuhae, will sing. Margaret Anglin will give a dramatic reading.
The Lyric Piano trio, which has made a special study of the works of such composers as Mendelssohn, Schubert, Mozart and Brahms, will prest-nt a series of programs featuring the works of great composers. The trio appears at WGBS at 9 p. m. Eastern daylight savings time July 1.
To get the full effect of the Sunday night broadcasts from KOA. the canny listener will place his loud speaker on the front porch, for the band concerts are given out-of-doors. The Denver municipal band will be featured by this station throughout July.
There will be no lessening of activities in the WPG summer studio aboard the steel pier. In this cool room, surrounded by water and accessible to every breeze, famous grand opera stars and instrumentalists will gather Sunday nights to entertain the Radio world with the very best. Among the artists already booked the following names may be found: Mme. Julia Claussen, Dolores Cassinelli, Elsa Alsen and Paul Althouse.
The "Spirit of *7G" will roll out of the loud speukers throughout the
United States of America July 4. The sound of drums, national songs, firecrackers, bells and every sort of program suitable for the national holiday will be heard. Take along the portable set Independence Day because the programs will be martial In tone.
If you mix up the bassoons, oboes, horns and flutes and are not sure about the difference between a viola and a violin, you will enjoy listening to the series of concerts being given Tuesday nights from WRNY by the Edison ensemble. This series of programs bears the title "The Musician's Palette" because ft likens the instruments In the orchestra to the colors used by the artist in putting his inspirations on the canvas.
In the summer, when the listener wants something that will blend in with the soft moonlight nights, the Subantenna string trio can supply this need for romance without becoming too jazzy or too highbrow. In their July 6 crusade against the demon static, the threesome and the Subantenna Crusaders themselves will take the fan back a half century to the days of love's old sweet song, "Annie Laurie," and — chest protectors. On July 13 they will entertain with a delightfully dramatized half hour of popular classics — songs that everybody loves. The last two Wednesdays the Crusaders plan to give a program of swash buckling tunes of the briny deep and pirate days and perhaps a tour program for fans who must stay at home. Tune in KYW to hear them.
When the Dresden Girls visit KFI, it is too bad that television sets are not already installed. These three girls dressed as Dresden China dolls will present a program at KFI, July 8, from 10 to 11 p. m. Pacific time.
PROGRAM NOTICE
Programs for the entire month of July arc given below. You may consult the regular features for standard schedules to be given throughout July.
