Devised by the Wilkens Jewelry Co. here in Pittsburgh as a Christmas promotion to run for eight weeks, the show took to the air on station WJAS in November, 1935. Since that time until the present, it has continued, winter and summer, missing just four Sundays in five and one-half years. (In 1936, a flood silenced the station completely for two weeks, but didn't dampen the spirits of the program; two other Sundays, the program graciously bowed to World Series games.)
