RADIO is a "folksy" business. Tbe programs that have been most popular, year in and year out, are not the big commercial extravaganzas, but those featuring simple, true-life dramas, songs and helpful talks by broadcasters who get to the hearts of the people. They have a faculty for making listeners feel that they are real friends, living, breathing personalities, and not just actors on a stage.
These "stars without ballyhoo" are found, for the' most part, on the daytime schedules, particularly in the mornings. Without any great publicity build-ups, or
any special attention paid to them by the broadcasting companies, they have maintained their following through the years, piling up fan mail and building such a place for themselves in the affections of their listeners that their fans would feel an actual physical loss if anything happened to take away these friendly neighbors of the airwaves.
On the NBC networks we find a genial crowd of artists who have kept the morning hours bright ever since the first days of radio. Their names are household words, their popularity still assured.
