Trained at the Central School of Speech Training and afterwards obtained contract with Sydney Carrol at the Regent's Park OpenAir Theatre. Acted in " Housemaster " at Apollo Theatre and in " George and Margaret " in London and New York. Has since appeared in many West End shows and made films including " George in Civvy Street " and " That Man is Mine." Recent radio plays include parts in " Mr. Beverley Plays God," " Memorial Conceit," "The Country of the Blind," " The Moon and Sixpence " and others. BOUMPHREY, GEOFFREY MAXWELL. Talks, debates, television, b. Lymm, Cheshire, 7th August, 1894. Is chiefly interested in all aspects of design. Address: c/o Lloyds Bank, R.3 Section, 6, Pall Mall, S.W.I. Educated Radley and trained as an engineer. Practised as designer and as writer, mainly on various aspects of design. Known for the programmes " Along the Roman Roads," " Down River," " Your Home and Mine," " The Changing Midlands," " Ripe for Development." (All series.) Author of many books including " The Log of the Ark," " Sea Farmers," " The Story of the Ship," " Cunning Cookery," and " Town and Country Tomorrow." Served in the 1918 war as an R.F.C. pilot, and was wounded in 1917. BOWER, DALLAS. Television and Radio Producer. 6. London, 25th July, 1907. Trained as a radio engineer with the Marconi Company, and worked with British Thomson-Houston. Assistant Editor and for a short time editor of " Experimental Wireless." Entered British film production in 1927 and became film editor, scenario writer, director and producer, and worked on such films as "The Path of Glory," " Escape Me Never," " As You Like It " and " Henry V." Was supervisor of Film Production, M.o.L, 1940-41. Recently adapted " The Insect Play " for World Theatre Series. Hobby: Sailing. Clubs : Savile, and Royal Burnham Yacht Club. BOWLES, MICHAEL ANDREW. Director of Music, Radio Eireann. b. Riverstone, Co. Sligo, 30th November, 1909. Conducted the Radio Eireann Symphony Orchestra fortnightly from September to March, 1946, and the B.B.C. Symphony Orchestra twice in May, 1946. Address: 40, Maritime Gardens, East Blackrock, Co. Dublin. Phone: Dublin 83936. Was a Civil Servant in the Department of Education from 1926 to 1932. Cadet Bandmaster Army School of Music, 1932, and Commissioned in 1936, in which year he obtained his B.Mus. at National University. Seconded to broadcasting service in 1940 as conductor of orchestra. Appointed Director of Music, and retired from the army in 1944. Examiner in Music for the Dept. of Education since 1943. BOX, HAROLD OLDFIELD. Radio playwright, b. Bedford, 31st May, 1904. Began writing radio plays as a form of relaxation during the war, and has since had many of his scripts broadcast by the B.B.C. Best known for his serial plays based on Anthony Trollope's novels. Married, and has two children.
