Came to London in 1937 and began broadcasting. Made her theatre debut in Herbert Farjeon's " Nine Sharp." In 1946 appeared in " Navy Mixture," " Music from the Movies," " Musical Theatre of the Air," " Saturday Night Theatre," etc., and in television. Sister of Lilli Palmer, the film actress. PRESTON, DENIS. Scriptwriter, b. London, 16th November, 1916. Best known for his association with the Radio Rhythm Club since its inception in 1940. Address: Dolphin Square, London, S.W.I. Took over direction of Radio Rhythm Club in 1945. Author of the play " Fantastic Symphony," " Great Water — the story of the Mississippi," with Charles Chilton, and " Country Serenade," with Stanley Baron, and a so far unproduced surrealist radio script, " Haddocks Eyes Among the Heather Bright," written with Ruthven Todd. In 1946 did "History of Jazz," as well as " Radio Rhythm Club." PRETTEJOHN, JOSEPHINE. Contralto singer, b. Chulmleigh, N. Devon. Known as a singer in opera. Address: The Elms, Chulmleigh. N. Devon. Phone: Chulmleigh 98. L.R.A.M. winner, Bristol, Plymouth, and Southern Counties Gold Medals, and Bristol Eisteddfod Silver Cup. At one time was with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company. Has appeared at the Royal Albert Hall, Bournemouth and Torquay Municipal Concerts, E.N.S.A. and various Choral Society concerts. In 1945-46 was on the air in " Those Were the Days," a ballad concert from West Regional, and with the Midland Light Orchestra, etc. PRIEST, GUY. Talks and short stories. 6. First achieved recognition by writing on caravanning, and first broadcast a talk on the subiect in Ireland in 1943. Lives all the year round in his caravan, " Grey Plover," and now broadcasts from Belfast. Recent programmes were : " Caravan Kitchen," " Sea Swallows," " Caravan Nursery," " Irish Salmon," "White Owl," "Caravan Holiday," etc. Hobbies: Bird watching and mountaineering. PRIESTLEY, J. B. Playwright, Novelist, Talks. 6. Bradford, 13th September, 1894. Well known for his talks and " postscripts." Educated Bradford and Trinity Hall, Cambridge (M.A.). Was a schoolmaster for a short time. Served in the army, 1914-19. Began his career as a writer in 1918 when he published a volume of verse. Among his plays are " The Good Companions," " Dangerous Corner," " Laburnum Grove," " I Have Been Here Before," "People at Sea," "When We Are Married." "Good Night, Children," " They Came to a City " and " How Are They At Home?" Author of many novels, and is a frequent contributor to newspapers and periodicals.
