Item rfvtiMtiMe VOLUME 4 INDEX TO JAZZ Seven years ago Orin Blackstone began putting down on paper all the information he had gathered on jazz records. During the preceding years his interest in this American art had not led him much farther than buying all the jazz records he could lay his hands on. Soon he had accumulated an enviable jazz collection of the several thousand best jazz records. Another collector might have stopped at that point to hang out a sign reading "A COMPLETE JAZZ RECORD COLLECTION." Instead, Blackstone determined to collect and sift all information ever written about jazz records. Against this he compared the data he gathered from musicians and collectors in all parts of the world. And, as a native of New Orleans, he was In an ideal position to draw out, from the original New Orleans musicians, information which no one else could have obtained. As a result, the four volumes of the INDEX TO JAZZ contain data on jazz records which never have been published previously — corrected personnels, dates, master numbers for nearly all recording groups; complete or expanded discographies of obscure and under-rated folk and blues singers; hitherto unknown facts on such recording groups as Franltie Franlco's Louisianians, Wilmoth Houdini, Louisiana Rhythm Volume I (A through E) Volume II (F through L) Volume III (M through R) Volume IV (S through Z) Kings, Fate Marable, Sarah Martin, Johnny Miller, Sam Morgan, New Orleans Owls, Tony Parenti, Original Tuxedo Jazz Orchestra, Naylor's Seven Aces, Musical Stevedores and hundreds of others. Superficial statistics gathered from Blackstone's INDEX TO JAZZ indicate that, since 1916. more than 1500 different recording groups have assembled themselves in recording studios all over the world for the purpose of playing jazz music or a passable facsimile thereof. At one extreme you may find Blind Lemon Jefferson moaning the real blues, at the other, some "modernist" simpering over the lyrics of a current favorite. But between the two you have more than 20,000 records by such artists as; Ma Rainey and Sarah Vaughn; Bill Harris and Kid Ory; Jelly Roll Morton and Eddie Hey wood, Jr.; Dizzy Gillespie and King Oliver; George Lewis and Benny Goodman; Gene Krupa and Baby Dodds. our volumes of You'll find these 20,000 records in the fc Blackstone's INDEX TO JAZZ. Orin Blackstone has done a terrific job on INDEX TO JAZZ, and if you are a record collector you can't get along without it. $1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00 32 Order your copy from: Cordon Cullickson Fairfax, Virginia
