The preceding chart does not include newsreels or other news and live programs that make use of film clips. Nor does it indicate network film programming which, for the xpost part, also operates out of New York City. The chart is merely an indication of the amount of regularly-scheduled film shows on the New York City local outlets.
A study by stations reveals the following pertinent data:
ABC — Film Dept. Head Nat Fowler 7 West 66th Street TR 5-7000 Net & Local
Approximately 10^ hours of film programming weekly are scheduled for Y/JZ-TV. This includes a 5-6pm ’weekdays western for the kids, entitled Cowboy CIub9 a series of religious films under the title of Stained Glass Windows , 7-7 :30pm on Sundays, a new Monday feature, 7: 30-7: 45pm, Kieran’s Kaleidoscope, which is a nature series produced by Int’l Tele-Film, plus an interview show which just moved from Sunday to a Mon-wed-Fri schedule, 6:45-7pm Shipps Reporter. Tues¬ days, Thursdays and Saturdays each feature an hour-long film, while film shorts and features are used as emergency fillers.
Current ABC sales promotion is stressing the 26 week video exclusive, CRUSADE in Europe the picturization of Eisenhower’s book, released by March of Time, Doubleday Publishers, Movietone News and ABC. First episodes are set for April release, with sponsors being sought. Fred Feldkamp supervised the editing.

Approximately 9J hours of film programming as against about 28j^ live show up importantly in WCBS scheduling. This includes a five a week for the kids with Bob Dixon introducing a western under the title Chuck Wagon, 6: 30-7 :30pm, and scheduled features on Sunday (western), Thursday (mystery), Friday (English).
On March 10th, CBS announced four film packages to its affiliates, totaling 82 features and shorts and including 52 major British productions (42 never before seen in the US), 13 Vienna Philharmonic concerts, eight ’’Strange As It Seems*’ shorts and nine musical fillers. British films are being featured on Fridays at 9:30pm under title, Premier Playhouse.

Surprising to note is fact that V/ABD regularly schedules only one feature film, at 9pm on Saturdays. This is caused by new Spring schedule which moved daytime programs to evening spots and knocked out film fare.

Y/NHT is also currently light on film programming with only sj of approximately 44 scheduled hours (Ross figures) devoted to a 5-6 :30pm Sunday Hopalong Cassidy western, shorts of educational type at 10-10: 20am Sunday and a special drama¬ tic package entitled YOUR SHQY/TIME , 9:30-l0pm Fridays, This series of drama¬ tizations of classic short stories was bankrolled by American Tobacco Company and produced by Marshall-Grant -Realm Productions in Hollywood. It is a highbudget dramatic experiment with filmed programming & prints are spotted at stations throughout the country for repeat showings, Arthur Shields plays the story teller who introduces the dramatizations; Jam Handy did the commercials; account is handled by N.YV. Ayer Agency; John Esden announces the commercials.
WPLX Film Dept, Head Ed Evans 220 East 42nd Street MU 2-1234
Heaviest film programmer of all local stations, the Daily News station has llj: hours of its total 31 regularly scheduled (Ross figures not including full re¬ mote times) devoted to film. Six Gun Playhouse is a six-day western for kids at 6-7pm; Tuesday and 'Wednesday evenings feature what amounts to double-headers with Film Museum & a feature on Tuesdays & a Tom Mix serial plus one of the top Korda pictures on ^Wednesdays. Your New York is a 35 minute weekly study of New York highlights, Saturdays, 8:25-9pm. Y/PIX announced on March 11th that it had closed with Motion Picture Mgt., Hollywood, for 36 British major films in a large package deal. Most of these will be seen in New York for the first time.
