in London at present in that great success ‘‘ Hassan,”’ over which all the crities waxed most enthusiastic. And don’t, I beg of you, miss going to His Majesty’s. We all need the tonic of a good laugh these days, don’t we?
Fete at ‘* Glenshiel.’’ «
Amid perfect weather the Féte at Lady Dalrymple’s lovely home, ‘‘ Glenshiel,’’ was a great success, and buyers began to roll up very early. Lady Dalrymple, in a cool summer frock and shady hat, was everywhere at once superintending and helping everyone. Mrs. Joe Cohen as her co-organiser did much to-help in the success. The stalls were filled with good things, and one felt the restfulness of the wonderful garden with the purple-belled jacaranda trees,
the beds of glorious flowers, the lavender, and the deep
shades of the bougainvillea. Among the Jadies who assisted were Mrs. Jack Andrew Cohen, the vice-chair of the Alexandra Convalescent Home, for which place and the funds of the White Cross Legion of Women the Féte was got up, Mrs. Bowles, Mrs. H. A. Neame (whom I saw at
the book stall), Mrs. Gustav Sonn and Mrs. Peter Kaplan ©
(who did a good business at the toy. stall), Mrs. Burt Andrews and Mrs. G. W. Nelson (who were selling sweets) and Mrs. Lockie (who headed the bachelor stall with willing helpers). There were many side-shows: Dips, convened. by Mrs. Dave Jacobs; produce, presided over by Lady van Hulsteyn; a delightful flower stall, at which I saw Mrs. Heslington, Mrs. Tomlinson and Mrs. Treloar. Then teas were in the hands of Mrs. Devitt, Mrs. Finlayson and Mrs. Sims; the Guild of Loyal Women took a stall, and there were numbers more I have no space to mention. The Jazz Maniacs played charming selections, and as all. the ladies concerned have promised to assist the Armistice Day Féte one should on no account miss it, and the soldiers deserve more than that of us anywgy, don’t you think so?
More Benoni Doings.
From Benoni comes news of the Benoni Association Football Club’s second annual dance, which was a great success, the more so as the team “had won the Transvaal Challenge Cup. This, together with the medals, was presented to the players by Mrs. Nestadt, who is the wife of the energetic secretary. About 3850 people were present, the Hebrew Hall, in which the dance was held, being taxed to the utmost. Musical items were the order of the even
