with tabs of maracain and the gown being fastened over in
the front with a jet ornament and featuring two side-panels
edged with tabs. Her black hat had a black osprey in it
and was turned up in front. Mrs. T. F. Allen, Mrs, DormerJordan, Mrs. E. M. Ramsay, Mrs. G. Sonn, Mrs. Carlin, Mrs. Montague Simpson, Mrs. Fitzpatrick, Mr. Barlow Coulthard and Mr. Seals Wood were also among the judges, and, being one of them, I can testify to the difficult time we all had. Eventually prizes were awarded to: Jean Wallers, as a dainty “‘ Butterfly ’’; Peggy Jordan, in a pink and black ‘‘ Early Victorian ’’ costume, crinoline and poke-bonnet complete, who looked very sweet; Leonard Turner, as an ‘“ Indian Rajah ’’; a wee ‘“‘ Salome ” (Noreen Wilson); a pretty ‘“‘ Shepherdess ’’ (Millicent Gard); ‘‘ Pierrette ’’ (Winnie Whittle), whose white satin costume had over a million beads stitched on it, I was told; a tiny yellow ‘‘ Butterfly ’’ (Dorothy Lambe), who did not wait to see what the gods had allotted her, but took the prize she liked herself, a Teddy Bear, and just walked off with it; another wee damsel, Dulcie Perridge, as a ‘‘ Bride’’; June Page, a ‘* Mandarin ’’; Miss Hoy as “‘ Aladdin ’’’; Clare Simpson in a ‘* Swedish costume ’’; and Carmen Jordan as a ‘‘ Dutch Boy.’’ In the Industries Section Gerard Prinz, as ‘‘ Gold,’”’ won a prize, and Dolly White as ‘* Maize,’’ Margaret Fenner ‘as “‘ Cotton,’’ and (for South African fruits) Valerie du Toit. us a ‘* Pineapple ’’ and Hazel Smith as ‘‘ Bananas,’’ also took prizes. Miss St. John as a “* Chrysanthemum ”’ and Eva Taylor as “* Narcissus ’’ were in the Flower Section.
