McQuillan, who after 24 years with M-G-M has retired to Laguna Beach. e Steve Forrest Presents Belle Schary Award To Betty Yaki, Nisei Student Marking his first visit to U.C.L.A. since graduating in 1950, M-G-M actor Steve Forrest last week presented the Belle Schary Award to Betty Yaki, outstanding Nisei student of the University Religious Conference. The award given annually by Dore Schary in memory of his mother, was made this year for Miss Yaki’s active participation in the Panel of America. | Alex’ Face Infrared! a Leo’s Roar Setting Lab’s Busy Keynote Peggy Mehner and Marie Hogan report the Laboratory, under Ed Tucker, buzzing with activity. New Autos Popular Spring, the open road and newcaritis have caught up with Harry Jones and Lowell Strifert. Both have new Buicks. (No advertising, please!) Elwood Bornick has a new car, too, while George Lehman bought a house trailer. Swin-Diving Hobby Ted McFarland and Jim Mason will be making like lobsters and tuna in their skin-diving outfits, but Dick Utpadel is still faithful to golf. Charles Humphrey is dreaming of Sun Valley. Home Addresses Change Tommy Bryan, after moving, thinks “built-ins” should replace all furniture. Jerry and Henry Siccardi are now in their Pacific Palisades hilltop home, and Dick Ripple and Louis Williman will soon be over-the-fence neighbors. ® Warren Toplines Accounting News Sun, sand and stars lured the George Warrens and Susan, relaxing on vacation at Palm Springs. More sun this summer is the cue for Accounting’s Frank Amelio, he and family moving into a San Fernando Valley home. In the same department it’s a boost Upstairs for Lillian Yure, who takes over for Vella Raridon, retired into bliss at home. “We miss you, Lil,” sighs her co-worker of many years, Inez Bowser Dig that new green auto Rose Bertrand drives on week-end jaunts. Joyce Brent occupies the spot formerly brightened by June Peralta in Insurance ... Bob Curtis moved over to the Music Department ... and Accounting is latest (and very attractive) addition, is Gertrude Daily. e “Julius Caesar’ Proving Top Grosser Everywhere “Julius Caesar,” in 200 pre-release engagements, has grossed more than $1,600,000, which predicts a world gross for the Shakespearean drama of $5,000,000, a survey just completed reveals. The all-star drama, produced by John Houseman and directed by Joseph Mankiewicz. has enjoyed 100 per-cent cooperation of high schools and colleges throughout the country. Cartoon .O. B. Barkley, having bought a house at Twentynine Palms, is modernizing it week-ends. That MG parked outside the Cartoon Building belongs to Bill Schipek, former big car enthusiast. Mrs. Phillip Carlson, mother of Helen Parrish, recuperating at Queen of Angels hospital from recent illness, sends thanks for the flowers and cards sent her by the Cartoon personnel. Vic Damos, turning interior decorator, is beautifying his new apartment. Florence Heintz is a weekly commuter to Arrowhead cabin. Ollie Hanson reports her Buellton motel doing nicely.
