Tracy and Loy Teamed in "Grass" Spencer Tracy and Myra Loy will be teamed in MGAI's "The Sea of Grass," Conrad Richter's epic drama of the spread of civilization in the early West. It's Just an Act! Film Director Lloyd Bacon isn't comforting OsA Massen, pretty Danish actress. He's showing George Brent how he wants him to react to Osa's weeping in a scene for Warner Bros.' "Honeymoon For Three." Brent is co-starred with Ann Sheridan, his real-life romance. Korda Does Process Work at Fine Arts Alexander Korda is using Fine Arts studio for the process work on his Technicolor production, "The Thief of Bagdad," for United Artists release. Dick Pearl, studio manager for Franklyn Warner, set the deal with General Service studios. Wood Signs Greene for "Kitty Foyle" Director Sam Wood has signed Richard Greene for the male lead opposite Ginger Rogers in "Kitty Foyle," which goes into production late this month at RKO. The deal was set with 20th Century-Fox, Greene's home studio, and is the first loan-out of the English star. "South of Suez" Starts "South of Suez," the George Raft-Geraldine Fitzgerald starring picture went before the cameras at Warner Bros, with Lew Seiler directing. James Stephenson and George Tobias have been cast for important roles. The story by Barry Trivers has a Kimberley diamond mines setting. "Stream" Next Autry Starrer Republic has set "Old Mill Stream" as the next Gene Autry starrer, which will go before the cameras next week under the direction of Frank McDonald. Smiley Burnette has the top comedy role and June Storey the feminine lead. This will be the fourth Autry picture directed by McDonald. Roach Winds "Road Show" Hal Roach wound up shooting on "Road Show" and will begin immediately on the editing and scoring. Next on the schedule will be "Topper Returns" in early October. Lang Checks in at 20th-Fox Director Fritz Lang checked in at 20th Century-Fox to prepare for "Western Union," Don Ameche starrer which will roll September IS. Randolph Scott has been cast for one of the important roles. AHOLND HOLLYWOOD with the "Oldtimer" Looks like Hollywood is going up in the air, at least as far as picture titles are concerned. Here's the line-up to date; MGM's "Flight Command," Warner Bros.' "Fifty Thousand Fliers," Paramount's "I Wanted Wings," and Universal's "Give Us Wings." Happy landings, gentlemen. RKO's party after the preview of "Lucky Partners" was tops for fun. Our snooping reporter tells us that John Ford has another "Informer" in his latest, "The Long Voyage Home," and that John Wayne will surprise everyone with his trouping. Mark this one on your "must see" list. Linda Darnell, Dallas' gift to the movies and a nice gift at that, will have a chance to both sing and dance in 20th Century-Fox' "Song of the Island," set for a November start. Wonder when the studio discovered the young lady's additional charms . . . which also includes blushing in the love scenes. Russell Birdwell is at it again. His latest brain-child is a "preview" of the 24-sheets for Alexander Korda's "Thief of Bagdad," with checkers stationed a block away to get the reactions of the public. If said reactions are on the "stinky" side, we suppose they will junk the lot and start over again from scratch. Republic's singing star, Roy Rogers, has been appointed a colonel on the staff of Governor John Miles of New Mexico, and to take Roy's word for it, the title is not an honorary one but an official commission. From now on, we'll have to call him Colonel. Early returns on MGM's "Boom Town" should show Hollywood what is needed for a sure-fire boxoffice hit. We understand the take is running about 30% better than the studio expected, and now points to one of the top money-makers of the season. A few more like it will help the entire industry. Tropical Scene for Marlene Marlene Dietrich and Brodericic Crawford on the set of their new Universal film, "Seven Sinners," in which Marlene appears as a belle of the South Seas. Note the unusual feathers which take the place of furs in the tropics.
