The house was designed and built by the F. & Y. Building Service of Columbus. Bridgeport, Conn. — Work on the construction of a $250,000 air-conditioned theatre seating 958 persons has begun at Pequoonock St. and Park Ave. It is expected to open in January. Mansfield, Mass. — Plans have been completed and filed with the selectmen for a theatre on North Main Street. Peru, 111. — The Peru Turners Association will remodel its building into a theatre seating 1,300 people. The house will be leased to a private operator. Norfolk, Va. — The Suburban Theatre, a Hofheimer enterprise, at Granby St. and Sewells Point Road is now under construction. Harry Adelman is the architect. Sacramento, Calif. — Blumenfeld Theatres are working on the construction of a $20,000 theatre at 1212 K St. It is expected to open Sept. 1. Ionia, Mich. — E. C. Beatty, president of Butterfield Theatres, has announced plans for the construction of a new house here, second unit of the circuit in this town. RCA is now distributor of Brenkert projectors, lamps and associated theatre products. William Cassidy, Midland and Saginaw theatre owner, will operate the project. Bennett and Straight of Dearborn are the architects. East Detroit, Mich. — Construction of the Eastwood Theatre, Gratiot at Eight Mile Road, for Donald R. Shook, is now under way. The house will seat 500 persons and will have cost $20,000 when completed. Middleton, Wis. — Representatives of Milwaukee and Twin City theatrical interests have been surveying locations here for a possible site for a new theatre. Cape Charles, Va. — Alfred M. Lubin, Norfolk architect, is drawing plans for the construction of an 800 seat theatre here. George E. Ward, Jr. will lease the building and operate the theatre. Chapel Hill, N. C— The Wilby-Kincey Circuit has purchased a site for a 1,200 seat theatre on Franklin St. Construction will begin next month. Greenwood, Miss. — Plans have been drawn and submitted to contractors for the construction of a theatre here for the Paramount-Richards Circuit. The house will seat 1,100. Wheeling, W. Va. — Erection of a new theatre on Main Street was begun last month. Leon and Chris Velas, operators of the Family Theatres, are the owners. New Britain, Conn. — John J. Arnold and Pope Sisco, to be built at an estimated cost of $50,000, has been awarded to B. F. Churchill and Son of Barbourville. Trumansburg, N. Y. — Jules Berinstein, manager of Cornell Theatres, has announced plans for the construction of a theatre here. Meantime, Berinstein said, work on alterations of the Crescent Theatre in Ithaca is proceeding. Bakersfield, Calif. — Work is under way on the new theatre on Kern Ave. here. Frank Panero of Delano, the owner, expects the house to open early in September. Longview, Wash. — S. A. Oversby and Everet R. Cummings have signed a deal for completion of the new Longview Theatre on Commerce Ave., at a cost of $52,000. Camp Forrest, Tenn. — Smith and Pew Construction Co. of Atlanta has been awarded a $51,739 contract for construction of a theatre here. Houston, Tex. — R. C. West, general contractor, has commenced construction on the new Interstate Theatre in Telephone Road. Pettigrew and Worley of Dallas are architects for the house which will seat 800. San Diego, Calif. — Lou and Gus Metzger and Harry Srere have asked permission to construct a new theatre at India St. and Broadway at a cost of $40,000. Dorchester, Mass. — Work has been started on a $300,000 building, which will include a theatre and a block of three modern stores. Bremerton, Wash. — Contracts will be awarded soon by the Orman Amusement Co. for construction of a theatre to cost $300,000. McClelland and Jones, Seattle, are the architects. Cleveland, Ohio — The Fairmount Theatre Company has obtained permission of the University Heights Council for a theatre at 2645 North Park Blvd. Oddly enough, however, the company must also obtain permission from the Shaker Heights Council, since the house will be partly in that community. Sumter, S. C— The Palmetto Theatre Co., owners of the Sumter and Rex Theatres here and other houses in the Carolinas, have announced plans for a new and modern theatre.
