Principals: Ken Murray, Harriet Hilliard, Iris Adrian, Don Douglas, Marjorie Gateson, Joe Brown, Jr. Plot: Don Douglas has been sticking to classical recordings for juke boxes because of the wishes of the company's chief stockholder. But when these prove a flop, he and his head salesman, Ken Murray, find a way to introduce jive into their recordings and thus save the business. Director, Harold Young. DOCTOR Rx (Univ.) Mystery. Principals: Lionel Atwill, Anne Gwynne, Patric Knowles, Mona Barrie, Shemp Howard, Paul Cavanagh, Samuel S. Hinds. Plot: A mysterious killer is loose and his victims are men acquitted of various criminal charges. Baffled, the police seek the assistance of a famous detective. He lets himself be captured by the killer in order to find out who he is. This trick solves the case. Director, William Nigh. MISSOURI OUTLAW (Rep.) Western. Principals: Don "Red" Barry, Lynn Merrick, Noah Beery, Paul Fix. Plot: A young westerner known to be an expert gunman, is unjustly accused of killing his father. The man was killed by a gang of racketeers doing business under the name of a Protective Association, and they objected to his interference. Someone helps the boy escape from prison, so that he can go out and get the real murderer. Assoc. Producer-Director, George Sherman. LADY FOR A NIGHT (Rep.) Drama. Principals: Joan Blondell, John Wayne, Ray Middleton, Philip Merivale, Blanche Yurka, Edith Barrett, Leonid Kinsky. Plot: The proprietress of a gambling boat, whose life's ambition has been to break into society, marries the no-good son of a decadent family. With her money she plans to restore the family to its former position of wealth and power, but her efforts are rebuffed and her life is threatened before she gives up the idea and goes back where she belongs. Director, Leigh Jason. I KILLED THAT MAN (Mono.) Mystery. Principals: Ricardo Cortez, Joan Woodbury, Iris Adrian, George Pembroke, Herbert Rawlinson. Plot: A condemned killer is murdered by a poisoned dart as he is about to confess. Only a few people are present in the deathhouse at the time of the murder. Several clues lead to a prominent man, but there is no evidence. So the Assistant District Attorney works undercover until he gets the information he needs to apprehend the man. Director, Phil Rosen. Release, Nov. 14. BALL OF FIRE (RKO) Comedy. Principals: Gary Cooper, Barbara Stanwyck, Oscar Homolka, Henry Travers, S. Z. Sakall, Tully Marshall. Plot: A group of college professors, while working on the manuscript of a new Encyclopedia, suddenly discover that they must include a chapter on slang, about which they know nothing. So one of the professors goes seeking the information, and meets a strip-tease dancer in a nightclub. With her help he not only gets enough material for his chapter, but he gets the dancer too. Director, Howard Hawks. TUXEDO JUNCTION (Rep.) Western. Principals: Leon, Frank and June Weaver, Sally Payne, Thurston Hall. Plot: The Weaver family find work on their farm for a group of migrant kids. They all seem satisfied, except one boy who thinks they are being exploited.
