Plot: A hard-bitten and determined overseer of a rubber station in Africa, tries his best to keep the white men under him, from deteriorating. One Englishman in particular, starts out with good intentions, but loneliness and the advances of a native siren soon have their effect. This siren is disposed of by the overseer when he discovers her poisoning the Englishman because she wants to get rid of him. Director, Richard Thorpe. SILVER QUEEN (Para.) Western. Principals: George Brent, Priscilla Lane, Bruce Cabot, Lynne Overman, Eugene Pallette, Janet Beecher. Plot: A society belle, with a natural flair for gambling, becomes a famous "Queen of Chance" when forced to pay her father's debts after he dies broke. Her fiance robs her by keeping the money meant for t'ne creditors, and the mine rightfully hers. But the man she falls in love with helps her get straightened out. Director, Lloyd Bacon. LITTLE TOKYO, U. S. A. (20th-Fox) Spy. Principals: Preston Foster, Brenda Joyce, George E. Stone, Harold Huber, Abner Biberman. Plot: A detective whose beat is the Japanese section of Los Angeles, suddenly becomes suspicious of recent activities. He finds a Japanese classmate who had offered to help him, beheaded. In order to get to the bottom of the strange goings-on, the detective has to hide in the morgue. This because one of the spies, an American born German, has framed him and the police are on his trail. He is successful in breaking up the ring and from then on Little Tokyo becomes a ghost town. Director, Eugene Forde. SPIRIT OF STANFORD (Col.) ComedyDrama. Principals: Frankie Albert, Marguerite Chapman, Matt Willis, Robert Stevens, Shirley Patterson, Kay Harris. Plot: The cockiest freshman ever to set foot at Stanford in 1938, has everyone disliking him, in spite of the fact that he can deliver on the football field. It takes three years of school and a roommate who almost dies of pneumonia, for him to come down to earth. All this is told in the Trophy Room one morning, by the self-same youth when he comes in to mop the floor. Director, Charles Barton. SON OF THE SADDLE (RKO) Western. Principals: Tim Holt, Cliff Edwards, Ann Summers, Davidson Clark. Plot: A youngcowboy tries to break up a gang of bandits who terrorize the people and rob gold shipments. Secretly commissioned by the governor, the cowboy joins the bandits in an effort to ferret out the real leader. He comes very near being lynched before he discovers the identity of the man and breaks up the gang. Director, Lambert Hillyer. PRAIRIE CHICKENS (UA) Comedy. ! Principals: Jimmy Rogers, Noah Beery, Jr., Joe Sawyer, Marjorie Woodworth, Jack Norton, Raymond Hatton, Rosemary La Planche. Plot: Two happy-go-lucky cowboy pals, stranded in the great open spaces, get a lift from the colored chauffeur of a car that had precipitated one of them into a small creek. One, now wearing the owner's clothes, is accepted by a group of citizens from a nearby town, as the inheritor of a large ranch.
