All the people he knew are contacted; in fact one who wants to talk is found murdered; but to no avail. The ghost finally finds a way to have the guilty party expose himself. LONE STAR TRAIL (Univ.) Western. Principals: Johnny Mack Brown, Tex Ritter, Fuzzy Knight, Jennifer Holt, William Farnum. Plot: The son of a man who has become head of a band of unscrupulous land owners, is forced to join up with his father's opponents, because he believes in law and order. But, when the son is falsely accused of murder, the father agrees to dissipate his band in return for his boy's freedom and all ends well. Director, Elmer Clifton.
WHO DONE IT? (Univ.) Comedy. Principals: Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Patric Knowles. Louise Allbritton. Plot: Two soda clerks get mixed up with a murder when they apply for work as radio writers. Posing as police detectives, they question those present until the real detectives come along. Suspected, they are caught after a chase in which they uncover another dead body, and jailed. In the meantime, the producer of the sho\\^ and his girl-friend, find the guilty party. Director, Erie C. Kenton.
RIDERS OF THE WEST (Mono.) Western. Principals: Buck Jones, Tim McCoy, Raymond Hatton, Sarah Padden. Plot: A woman owner of a ranch sends for a U. S. Marshal when cattle rustling becomes very serious. The town banker, the Sheriff, the owner of the Saloon and one of the ranchers are in cahoots. When the rancher is found dead, the Marshal, who has arrived posing as a traveling peddler, finds a way to clear the situation. Director, Howard Bretherton.
OLD HOMESTEAD (Rep.) Drama. Principals: Leon, June, Frank Weaver. Maris Wrixon, Robert Conway, Dick Purcell, Anne Jeffreys. Plot: In order to rid the town of an undesirable element, Elviry enlists the aid of an extremely clever gangster. He does his work well, but in place of those disposed of, he takes over and is about to ruin the town and its townspeople, when a young crusading newspaperman comes to the rescue. GIVE OUT, SISTERS (Univ.) Musical. Principals: Andrews Sisters, Grace McDonald, Dan Dailey, Jr., William Frawley, Richard Davies, Charles Butterworth, Walter Catlett. Plot: A society dame tries to get work as an entertainer in a nightclub. When her aunt learns of this, trouble starts. The press agent of the club, however, arranges with the Andrews Sisters to help him, and the girl, get around the aunt's objections. Director, Edward F. Cline.
SHERLOCK HOLMES FIGHTS BACK (Univ.) Mystery. Principals: Basil Rathbone, Nigel Bruce, Kaaren Verne, Lionel Atwill, William Post, Jr. Plot: The Gestapo is desperate to kidnap a famous Swiss scientist and inventor of a new super bombsight, but Basil Rathljone disguises himself as a Nazi agent, outwits the Axis operatives and escapes to England.
