Plot: One of the best catchers the Blue Sox ever had is suspended for insubordination. While singing to earn a few pennies, he is signed up to a singing contract. Since he cannot sing unless he has a cold, he finds himself being cured of his cold when the^^ want him to play baseball and being exposed to a cold when they want him to sing. He ends up with his first love ... as catcher for the Blue Sox. Director, Anthony Mann. SIN TOWN (Univ.) Western. Principals: Constance Bennett, Patric Knowles, Brod Crawford, Anne Gwynne, Andy Devine, Leo Carrillo, Ward Bond. Plot: A team of "sharpers" arrive in a small Western town in time to prevent the lynching of a gamblingczar. Quick to sense his new power, the man makes a deal with the czar to split fifty-fifty. The girl resigns herself to aggressive waiting, since this is a new racket. It looks like the man is headed for plenty of trouble when the townspeople accuse him of blasting a well, but he manages to extricate himself and he and she move on to new pastures. Director, Ray Enright. X MARKS THE SPOT (Rep.) Drama. Principals: Damian O'Flynn, Helen Parrish, Dick Purcell, Neil Hamilton, Jack La Rue, Anne Jeffreys. Plot: A private detective, on the eve of his induction into the Army, learns of his father's murder and immediately sets out with the aid of a police lieutenant, to find the killer. Through the knowledge of the murderer's voice, a young lady working in the central ofifice of a remote-control juke box company, the young man is able to uncover the police lieutenant as the euilty party. Director, George Sherman. KEEPER OF THE FLAME (MGM) Drama. Principals: Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn, Richard Whorf, Audrey Christie, Horace McNally, Donald Meek. Plot: The tragic death of a famous American draws the attention of most newspaper people, among whom is a correspondent just returned from Germany. Anxious to write the story of one who stood for everything fine in democracy, he interviews the wife. He suspects her of Nazi leanings, only to learn after the story is written, that she was trying to shield her husband's good name. Director, George Cukor. SEVEN MILES FROM ALCATRAZ (RKO) Drama. Principals: James Craig, Bonita Granville, George Cleveland, Frank Jenks, Cliff Edwards, Erford Gage. Plot: Two convicts break out of Alcatraz and land on a lighthouse seven miles out at sea. There they discover a Nazi spy acting as radio operator. They upset his plans to deliver maps to three expected Nazis and end up by stalling them until assistance arrives from the mainland. Taken back to prison, they are given promise of leniency for their loyalty to their country. Director, Edward Dmytryk. HIGH EXPLOSIVE (Para.) Drama. Principals: Chester Morris, Jean Parker, Barry Sullivan, Ralph Sanford, Barbara Lynn, Rand Brooks. Plot: The owner of nitroglycerine plant in California finds an old buddie and gets him to come back. He is the best nitro man in the country for the dangerous job of nitro truck driving. When his recklessness costs the life of the brother of the girl he loves, he sacrifices his own life to pay the bill. Director, Frank McDonald.
