An oldtime sweetheart, now going with his brother, complicates his budding affair with his "wife." He foils the saboteurs; his brother wins his ex-sweetheart and he leaves for Combat Intelligence after obtaining his "wife's" promise to wait. PRACTICALLY YOURS (Para.) Comedy': Drama. Plot: A returning hero finds himself saddled with an unexpected sweetheart and publicity provided by his former boss. He and the girl carry out the farce of being in love until they actually do fall for each other. A boy friend provides some amusing complications, while the hero's dog turns out to be he girl's rival. But it ends happily with the hero and the girl marrying before he returns to active duty in the Pacific. IT HAPPENED TOMORROW (UA) Drama. Principals: Dick Powell, Linda Darnell, Jack Oakie, Edgar Kennedy. John Philliber, Edward Brophy. Director, Rene Clair. Plot: A young newspaperman finds himself with a copy of tomorrow's newspaper, and after reading the news becomes involved in the happenings yet to come. Because of this, he's arrested as an accessory to a robbery; he saves a young lady whom he's interested in from drowning and he learns about his own death. He finally gets everything straightened out . . . and wins the girl he saved fro™ drowning. FORTY THIEVES (UA) Western. Principals: William Boyd, Andy Clyde, Louise Currie. Director, Lesley Selander. Plot: Hoppy gets the wind taken out of his sails by the bad element who gang up on him for all the punishment they received because of his work. When the Governor of a state sends for him to help clean up the town. Hoppy falls into the hands of the gang waiting. They frame him and he suffers a terrific amount of punishment at their hands, before he is freed and things are straightened out. MR. WINKLE GOES TO WAR (Col.) Drama. Principals: Edward G. Robinson, Robert Armstrong, Ted Donaldson, Bob Haymes, Sam Flint. Director, Alfred E. Green. Plot: After being inducted into the Army at the age of . forty-four, a bank clerk proves his mettle by taking it with the youngest rookies — and remaining after the law permitted the release of all men over thirtyeight.
