DETECTIVE KITTY O'DAY (Mono.) Mystery. Principals: Jean Parker, Peter Cookson, Tim Ryan, Veda Ann Borg, Ed Gargan, Douglas Fowley. Director, William Beaudine. Plot: Two lovers work for a man whose undercover work is handling stolen bonds and securities. When this man is found murdered, they are naturally suspected of the crime. They start a search for clues and come across two other murders before the culprit is captured.
SEVENTH CROSS (MGM) Drama. Principals: Spencer Tracy, Signe Hasso, Hume Cronyn, Steve Geray, Herbert Rudley, Kurt Katch. Director, Fred Zinnemann. Plot: This is the story of the successful escape of one of seven fugitives from a German concentration camp in the fall of 1936, when Hitler was already in power, but war had not yet begun. The concentration camps were fast filling with German citizens who rejected the Nazi creed. One by one the prisoners are captured, but this one, with the help of kind strangers, manages to escape to Holland. Before he leaves he pledges his return to pay back the people who have "healed" him.
SINCE YOU WENT AWAY (UA) Drama. Principals: Claudette Colbert, Joseph Cotten, Monty Woolley, Shirley Temple, Jennifer Jones, Robert Walker. Director, John Cromwell. Plot: Taken from the best-seller of the same name, this is the story of an American housewife living in a small midwestern town, who had to take over the reins of the household when her husband joined Uncle Sam's forces. She had a grown daughter to help with her romantic problems; a teen-aged miss who needed handling and other everyday issues. To add to all this, she had the additional problem of an old retired Colonel whom she took in as a boarder, for the financial help he contributed.
LAW MEN (Mono.) Western. Principals:
Johnny Mack Brown, Raymond Hatton, Jan Wiley, Kirby Grant, Robert Frazer. Director, Lambert Hillyer. Plot: Two U. S. Marshals arrive secretly in a town, to investigate various bank and stage holdups. One represents himself as a shoemaker and the other manages to join a gang of outlaws. They meet secretly and work out a plan whereby the townspeople help them make the arrests.
JUNGLE WOMAN (Univ.) Horror. Principals: Acquanetta, J. Carrol Naish, Evelyn Ankers, Milburn Stone, Lois Collier, Richard Davis. Director, Reginald LeBorg. Plot: At a coroner's inquest, a doctor tells his story about the killing of a young girl whose body was found on the grounds of his sanitarium. She had appeared suddenly, at a circus, after the disappearance of an ape. She had all animal instincts and when she attempted to kill the doctor's daughter he accidentally gave her an overdose of adrenalin, in trying to subdue her. He is acquitted.
HIDDEN VALLEY OUTLAWS (Rep.) Western. Principals: Bill Elliott, George Hayes, Anne Jeffreys, Roy Barcroft, Kenne Duncan. Director, Howard Bretherton. Plot: In the early days of the Southwest, the government issued to war veterans certain papers called Head Rights, which allowed these men to settle and claim ownership on any unoccupied land. These Head Rights were as negotiable as money, and often fell into the hands of unscrupulous men. Such a man was the lawyer of the town, his friendly manner concealing his position as secret head of a gang. Bill Elliott is called in to solve the mystery and he manages to straighten out the mess.
