Plot: When the citizens of Painted Valley are unable to rid themselves of the tyranny of their territorial Governor and his unidentified henchmen, they send for a Federal Commissioner to come and help. Everything from stagecoach robbery to murder is committed by the crooks to prevent the arrival of the man, but they're eventually caught, thrown in jail, and the town becomes a peaceful place again. Plot: A shy, young small-towner returns from a trip to New York with his love affairs terribly involved. While there he had met and married, within three days, the daughter of a very social family. Her parents made it so miserable for them, that he was forced to leave and so went back home. The girl back home, knowing nothing of this, expects to marry him; his wife has a baby and he steals it and then when it looks as though the authorities are about to nab him for kidnapping, he proposes to a chambermaid in the hotel at which he's stopping. SOUTH OF DIXIE (Univ.) Comedy. Principals: David Bruce, Jerome Cowan, Anne Gwynne, Marie Harmon, George Cleveland. Director, Jean Yarbrough. Plot: To prevent their music publishing business from folding, one of the partners dreams up a colorful story of the other man's life and sells it to a motion picture company. He then takes the man through the South, as a publicity stunt. There, as a memlter of an old Southern family, he runs into trouble because of a feud and a southern gal who falls for him. To his surprise when he finally confesses the hoax, the motion picture company still want his story and his girl welcomes him back with open arms. MARRIAGE IS A PRIVATE AFFAIR (MGM) Drama. Principals: Lana Turner, John Hodiak, James Craig, Frances Gifford, Natalie Shafer, Morris Ankrum. Director, Robert Z. Leonard. Plot: The gay, irresponsible daughter of a socially prominent family marries a young Army Air Corps Lieutenant. Her flighty notions of marriage mars their bliss because he, given an Army discharge on account of a vitally important secret job he must do, has to buck down to hard work. When she meets another man and he confesses his love, she decides to get a divorce. She realizes before it's too late, that it is her husband she really loves, so she puts through a long distance call to him in Australia, where he is fighting with his old Air Corps Squadron. TROCADERO (Rep.) Drama. Principals: Rosemary Lane, Johnny Downs, Ralph Morgan, Dick Purcell, Ida James, Marjorie Manners. Director, William Nigh. Plot: The owner of a speakeasy, in prohibition days, loses his business when the law is repealed. This breaks his health, but he rejoices in the fact that he had the foresight to provide for the future of his step-children. After his death, the boy goes to college and the girl and an old friend take over the place. Then, when the boy is finished with his education, he comes back to help turn the place into a swanky nightclub; while the girl marries the orchestra leader.
