Roy Stealy, a navigator on a bomber, is now a prisoner in a German camp. He was formerly chief of the Great States Theatre stafif. Jack Spolinn, assistant manager of the Telenews Theatre, is at the Illinois Masonic Hospital recovering from a serious operation. Mrs. E. G. Walls, director of bond and stamp sales in Chicago theatres, is in the east on a short vacation. The warehouse buildings at Sacramento and Chicago Avenues have been acquired by B & K at a reported cost of $70,000. Stanley Nesky of the Gem Theatre, Jack Fisher, and George West, film distributor, have been admitted to Variety Club membership. Military notes : John M. Buese, Grand Theatre, Alton, joins the Navy. Fred Kravontka of Waukegan's Rialto to Army Administration School, Fargo, No. Dakota. Harold Schmits, Washington Theatre, Quincy, to Fort Logan, Colo. Robert C. Seggerman, State Lake Theatre, in the Army at Jamestown, N. D. Burt Erickson, Manor, to the Army at Camp Livingston. Eugene Hayden, Senate Theatre, to Fort Bragg. To the Army : Arthur Atkinson, Jr., Earl Allen, Norman Kaplan, Dan Welles, Mannie Fingerhut, Roberto Mardueno, Ernest Schepper. Donn K. Forker, formerly chief of service at the B & K Century and now an Army staff sergeant, is soon to be married to Miss Eleanor Skweres in Chicago. Allied Theatres members were scheduled to meet Friday afternoon at the Blackstone Hotel to discuss present trade conditions, especially the situation concerning re-issue bookings. The Miller Theatre circuit is now operatingall theatres in Savanna, 111., including the Web, the Times, and the Orpheum. Admissions have been stabilized at 25 and 40 cents. Jack Flinn, MGM western division manager ; Sam Shirley, Chicago district manager, and Ralph Branton, of Davenport, are up Minnesota way doing a little hunting. Bear steaks are m prospect along Wabash Avenue. Will DeVry of the DeVry Corporation is at the SMPE meeting in Hollywood, and while on the coast will visit Joe Norman, his west coast sales chief. Dolly Nutter, widow of Charley Niggemeyer, veteran Chicago stage and film director, is now booking and directing acts for film theatres. Bill Holden, Ted Dariostis, Ed Dloughy, Harry Potter, and Charley Nesbitt recently gave a dinner at the Berghofif steak house for Miles Concannon, to celebrate his 25th year in the theatre business. New managers : Bruce Godshaw at Van Nomikos' Lincoln, George Rosenthal to the B & K Cine Theatre, Theodore Dariotis at the Nortown, and Ted Clark at the Yale. Admission hikes : The Empress going from 22 to 28 cents evenings and the Parkway from 15 to 22 cents evenings. The Great States Rialto goes from 50 to 60 cents on Sundays. Attorney Thomas McConnell is in New York taking depositions to be used in the Jackson Park Theatre anti-trust case, which comes up next month in Federal Court here. CINCINNATI Gil Sheppard, 20th Century-Fox booker who reported for induction, was released because of physical disability and is back on the job. Frank Weitzel, assistant manager to Ralph Kinsler of Cincinnati, has joined the Seabees. The world premiere of Universal's "Flesh Continued * * and Fantasy" will be held on October 29 at the Albee. Mrs. Archie Clemons of the A. R. demons Circuit, Montgomery, W. Va., was in this week. Warners' Helen Winkler is back at her desk after several weeks of illness. Warners' Betty Weinberg expects to be married within a few weeks. A. H. Bales of the Lyric Theatre, Brooksville, Ky., was here on one of his rare visits. Metro's Katherine Mersch and Eleanor Buehren are vacationing. Booker Al Hobt welcomed his son, Pfc. Jack Hobt, who is on furlough. 20th Century-Fox is preparing for a Hallowe'en party on October 29 at the Hotel Alms. Irving Sochin is president of the Fox Film Llub and Gil Sheppard is chairman of entertainment. Fox's Evelyn Wasson is visiting her soldier husband at Camp Richardson. Cora Johns spent her vacation in New York City. Sylvia Gertzman, PRC-Pathe, has resigned her position to join her soldier husband in Florida. Sam Weiss succeeds Mrs. Gertzman as booker and office manager. Lillian Karsch and Ethel Cholak have been added to the PRCPathe staff. Margaret Woodruff, Belpik-Schine bookermanager, spent the week-end in Springfield visiting friends. Kay Lanham, Belpik, vacation-visited with Mr. and Mrs. Herb Brown of Greenfield, Mass. Mr. Brown was former manager and booker of Belpik in Cincinnati and is now an exhibitor in Greenfield. RKO's Ruth Harrer spent the week-end at her home in Huntington, West Virginia.
