The posthumous award of the Distniguished Flying Cross has been awarded to the family of Capt. Elmer G. Oglietti, son of the veteran exhibitor, Guy Oglieiti. who operates theatres in Leechburg, Pa. Capt. Oglietti, flight commander and Liberator pilot, was killed in the Italian war area. Nat Marcus, who covered the Erie territory for Warner Bros., has been transferred to the Milwaukee branch as city salesman. He will be succeeded here by Robert Lynch, veteran film salesman. Dr. C. E. Herman, who operates four theatres in Carnegie, Pa., has contracted for a complete renovation, including marquee, fronts, lobbies, decorations and painting, with William NaidenofT, decorator and contractor in Pittsburgh. HARRISBURG One of the most important first nights in Harrisburg's movie history occurred last Wednesday when the premiere of 20th Century-Fox's "Wilson" was held at the Rio. Manager E. Gerald Wollaston invited a long roster of celebrities for the occasion when all seats were reserved, and the Fabian-Wilmer and Vincent firm overstepped its usual budget to provide lavish exploitation. In addition to an extensive newspaper and radio campaign, Wollaston arranged for trailers in the State and Colonial, the other two Fabian-Wilmer and Vincent local houses, and for 200 display cards in Harrisburg Transportation Company busses. Twenty window tie-ups, from opticians and jewelers to hosiery and photographers' studios were arranged. Pete Stainbach, assistant manager, Loew's Regent, returned from a vacation in Richmond, Va., his former home, in time to take over the duties of Manager Samuel Oilman, called to Cleveland, O., by the death of his sister. A new doorman, Charles Hayes, is on duty at the Rio. "Waterloo Bridge," a re-issue, played to standing room only almost every night performance at the Regent last week, brought back by popular request. Two other re-releases were offered by the Rio in the first two days of the week before "Wilson" opened. They were "Manpower" and "Walking Dead." Holdovers of two principal films were expected, "Arsenic and Old Lace" at the State and "Since You Went Away" at Loew's Regent. OMAHA Joseph Feldhans, owner of the Schaller Theatre, Schaller, Iowa, has taken on an added duty. The County Board of Supervisors has appointed him Justice of Peace for Schaller, effective immediately. Rufus Blair of Paramount Pictures spent a week-end here contacting newspapers and radio stations. Ira Craine, manager of the Capitol Theatre at Sioux City, Iowa, has been appointed hy Tri-States Theatres to succeed Ted Kempkes^ as manager of the Bonham Theatre at Fairbury, Nebraska. Craine at one time was the assistant manager of the Omaha Theatre in Omaha. John Redmond, RKO-Singer divisional manager here, has been released from a hospital. Virginia Goodrich is the new 20th-Fox stenographer, replacing Mary Wurth who resigned. She vv'orked at RKO two and a half years ago. Ernest Pelson, 20th-Fox auditor, has left Omaha for Cleveland. Roy Bott, Hooper exhibitor, reopened his NEWSREEL • IT COMES WITH STARDOM. Peggy Ryan, Universal star, was sought by such a large crowd of youthful admirers one day last week that police found it necessary to place her at the base of a statue of General Sherman so she could safely sign autograph books of the boys and girls. theatre last week, closed since the floods this Summer. Bott finally purchased the seats he liad found so hard to get. Regina Molseed, 20th-Fox booker, has been named a major in the industrial division in the United War and Community Chest Fund Drive. Bill Granville of Quality Theatre Supply Co. and Ester Granville, booker-ofiice manager for Monogram, celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary last week. Jack McCarthy has reopened the Fort Theatre, which has been closed for some months. Former Omahan John Wangberg, now an RKO auditor, visited in Omaha on his vacation. Ed Rostermundt's recent illness cost him twenty-three pounds. The RKO salesman had a sun-stroke. A. P. Wubben, Parston, South Dakota, i:> doing extensive remodeling on his theatre. H. A. Raapke is the architect. E. D. Nash, Sioux Falls, S. D., exhibitor, is in the hospital with pneumonia. MGM Office Manager Hazel Anderson has returned from a company office managers' meeting at Kansas City. Max Weisfeldt, Columbia home office short subject supervisor, spent several days in Omaha. Radio Station KBON covered the special screening Friday night celebrating the opening of the new State Theatre. "Voice in the Wind" was the special screening picture, seen by a number of Film Row members and special guests of R. D. Goldberg. Herman Levy, general manager of the R. D. Goldberg circuit, interviewed members of the audience at the IvBON microphone. Darryl Zanuck, reared at Wahoo, Nebraska,, and that town's gift to the nation's movie followers via 20th-Fox, has ruled that Omaha be the scene of the Mid-west premiere of "Wilson." The date has been set for the week of October 18 at the Omaha Theatre, managed by RoUin K. Stonebrook. Navy Accommodates Stork Sonny Shepherd, long connected with Wonietco Theatres in Florida, this week became father of a 7-pound, 10-ounce baby girl, Sarah Jane, it was learned through a special wire. The message follows : "Navy stork arrived 0930Q U. S. Naval Hospital, Key West." Both the baby and Mrs. Shepherd are doing well. 'Champ' to Become Actor Paramount has signed Freddie Steele, former middleweight boxing champion for a role in "Duffy's Tavern." He joins talent, including Ed Gardner, Archie of the radio program ; Eddie Green, "Eddie the Waiter" ; Charley Cantor, "Finnegan" ; Victor Moore, Marjorie Reynolds, Barry Sullivan, Ann Thomas and guest stars including Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Betty Hutton, Dorothy Lamour, William Bendix, Sonny Tufts, Brian Donlevy, Eddie Bracken, Cass Daley and Yehudi Menuhin. Hal Walker is directing the picture with Joseph Sistrom producing. Ends 'Anchors Aweigh' Chore Frank Donohue, who has completed the choreography for MGM's "Anchors Aweigh," starring Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra, left Hollywood for New York this week to stage the (lances for Billy Rose's "Seven Lively Arts." Added to 'Autumn' Cast Bunny Sunshine and Nestor Paiva have been added to the cast of the forthcoming United .\rtists release, "Hold Autumn in Your Hand," which Jean Renoir is directing for Producing Artists, Inc.
