MONDAY 9 Encourage sober celebration of V Day to avert vandalism and destructiveness through lobby posters and screen trailers. 16 Make certain any surplus art shop paint is stored in warm, dry place to avoid spoilage from freezing. 23 Do you have a chain bolt on the office or room door where money is handled? Consistent use will discourage burglary. 30 Are you prepared for emergency power failure? Test emergency system. Have flashlights or battery lanterns handy. TUESDAY 10 Check outdoor billboards or poster panels belonging to theatre for security under winter conditions. Check anchorage. 17 If you have unrented store space in your theatre building apply some showmanship to your efforts to find a tenant. 24 Burn a handful of rock salt in coal furnaces weekly to clear chimney and flues of draft retarding soot. Don't use excess deodorants to hide faulty plumbing. Keep drains clean. THURSDAY 12 COLUMBUS DAY Have projectionist check film tension between top & bottom magazine as guard against fire. 19 Clean flaps of ticket machine weekly with kerosene to remove metal polish which can cause corrosion of metal edges. 26 Keep carbons in dry storage. Damp carbons sputter. Have operators dry all carbons over mild heat before using. FRIDAY 2 Check aisle & exit lights for bad globes, wiring connections, fuses, etc. Lawsuits are penalty for failure. 13 Check schedule for lighting & extinguishing outdoor signs against earlier sunset time. Check compliance. 20 Have wires entering theatre inspected for secure fastening, insulation. Avoid possibility of short circuit. 27 If tubes in sound system burn out prematurely have expert check all voltage of equipment at once. 3 Have awnings & screens been stored safely? Rub screens with oil or paint to prevent rust damage. SATURDAY 14 Check weather strip on windows, doors, vent covers to save fuel and heat. Use storm sash, insulation where possible. 21 Urge staff not to tie pennants, banners, or posters to light globes. Be sure displays don't flap against neon tubing. 28 Dry autumn leaves or com stalks used in displays should be placed where they cannot be carelessly ignited. 4 Drain all exposed water lines or plumbing fixtures in parts of building closed off from heat during winter.
