November 4, 1944 SHOWMEN'S TRADE REVIEW 67 Opinion Reveals No Reconversion Problem (Continned from Page 64) months to convert back to the manufacture of compressors. Our guess is that it will be three to six months before compressors will be available in any reasonable quantity whatever, after the release has once been given to the compressor manufacturers. "The new improvements developed as a result of war research will probably be in the nature of refinements rather than actual improvements. I do not believe anyone has anything of a revolutionary nature, such as some people seem to think should and will come out of the result of war research. Our opinion and that of others that we have talked with is that the equipment available immediately after the war will be pretty much as it was before, with refinements in production and perhaps in unit appearance. "The cost of post-war air conditioning equipment will be just as high and perhaps a little more costly than it was before the war. This will be a natural result of higher labor costs in all fields of manufacture as well as distribution. "We will be in position to take care of our customers on all requirements, except perhaps refrigeration, the day or week' following the release of this equipment for general purchase by the theatre trade. The refrigeration type unit will follow along possibly three months after that time." Theatre Carpet P. F. O'Neil Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Co., Inc. "Our best estimate of the situation at the present time would be that within four to six months after the ending of the European war some quantities of carpeting should be available, probably relatively small at first but increasing as the industry gets all the way back to 1941 volume. "Our opinion would be that for some time after reconversion, at least the first year, the industry would manufacture in total fewer grades of carpet and fewer designs than were available prewar. "We are not at the present time aware of any revolutionary changes as a result of war research. In any event we doubt if such developments would be available in the early postwar period. "Based on present indications of cost of material and labor, the prices of carpets after the war will undoubtedly be higher than prewar carpets." Box-Office Equipment 0. E. Hoffman Brandt Automatic Cashier Co. "We have Brandt Automatic Cashiers (Coin Paying and Changing Machines) available now for immediate shipment. These machines in all respects are the same as we manufactured before the war. It is impossible at this time to state if and when improvements will be made in our present theatre type Brandt Automatic Cashiers. Our present prices are the same as they were in the spring of the year 1942. What prices will be when present government regulations are cancelled, we just do not know. Our prices will, of course, be based on costs ; and from present indications, it appears that the cost of manufacture will be higher than before the war."
