The new officers will be installed Jan. 10 at the residence of Louis Nizer of Phillips and Nizer, attorney and executive secretary of the board. Vacationing over the holidays were Lee Mayer, WB New Jersey salesman, and Leo Jacobi, New York metropolitan salesman. Exhibitors observed at the trade screening of "To Have and Have Not" were ; Sam Goodman, Arthur Waykoff, Irving Renner, Jack Hattem, Irving Dashkin, Jack Aleltzer, Jack Lieff and Louis Weitzman. David Snaper, New Jersey exhibitor, underwent an operation on his eyes this week at the Perth Amboy General Hospital. The final meeting of the Motion Picture Associates established the election of two offices which were still the subject of contest before the year-end. Jack Ellis was elected first vice-president and chairman 'of the board of directors, and Howard Levy was elected to serve as second vice-president. Daniel Pedersen became one of the managers of the Globe Theatre after transference from the New York Theatre, where he had managed that playhouse for the past eight months. The Century Circuit's Brooklyn and Long Island theatres were mainly given over to kiddie programs in the holiday week, with an-all Disney festival in the Fantasy, Valley Stream, Baldwin and Lynbrook theatres. New Jersey Allied staged a beefsteak dinner at the Ritz Restaurant in Passaic last week. OMAHA Columbia held its Christmas party Friday, 'round the office Christmas tree. Salesmen were on vacation, including Elmer Dunas, who is spending his in Chicago. MGM also had a Yuletide party Friday and so did United Artists. RKO held its celebration the week previous. H. B. Johnson, WAC chairman, has received his plaque in appreciation of work done during the past year. Mrs. George Nash, wife of the Universal booker, is spending her vacation in Washington, D. C. Paramount was to hold its holiday party on the Friday between the holidays. United Artists and Paramount salesmen are vacationing this week. Walter Hoffman, 20th-Fox exploiteer, spent several days in the city. Ike Rubin, Paramount salesman, left for Rochester, Minn., where his wife is confined to the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Augustine and Lt. and Airs. Robert Hofif will be with the Robert Ballantynes, of Scott-Ballantyne Company, during the holidays. Hugh Braly, Paramount district manager at Denver, is spending the holidays in California. Jess McBride, Paramount branch manager, was in St. Louis over Christmas. H. B. Johnson reports that no theatre which thus far has completed its activities in the Sixth War Loan drive is running under its mark of the Fifth. Allan Brown has moved from the State Theatre here to the Ritz at Oelwein, la. Jim Luxford is the new assistant at the State. Beacon Theatre was the site of a movie this week for benefit of the Children's Memorial Flospital. 20th Century-Fox salesmen are on vacation this week. R. D. Goldberg, president of the R. D. Goldberg Theatre Enterprises, is in New York this week. Mr. and Mrs. Ray A'lunden, Lake Andes, S. D., exhibitors, were in Omaha this last week to bid their son farewell. He entered active service with the Marines. Mrs. I. Weiner was operated on last week. She is the wife of the Universal salesman. Ravena Huey, Metro utility girl, is leaving her position here to join her husband in service in California. Ray Cooley, RKO employe, has arrived at Great Lakes, III, for boot training. J. B. Preston, Humphrey, Neb., exhibitor, now in the Signal Corps, stopped off here en route to the East. Jack Gelfand will operate the Muse Theatre, managed by Harry Watts the last five years. Lie is installing new sound, new projectors and projector lamps. Western Theatre Supply is doing the job. Dorothy Weaver, 20th-Fox second booker, has her hubby. Glen, black. An MP, he was released from the Army last week because he was over age. Franchot Tone and Diana Merrill will play the leads. Louis Applebaum of the National Film Board gave a party last Friday night to employes of the organization. The entertainment included a preview of "Tomorrow the World." Julian Roffman, former producer of military training films for the National Film Board, and now a war correspondent, was reported here to have been wounded near the scene of action overseas. Gordon Beavis, manager of the Centre Theatre, and Mrs. Beavis spent Chri-stmas with her father, Alderman Dodds of Peterborough. The only theatre here to run a program Christmas eve was the Somerset operated by Alorris Berlin. The program included "Meet the People" and "Three Men in White." Peter Sager, an employe of the National Film Board, was discovered imbedded in a snow bank last week as a result of a cerebral disorder. Reports subsequently indicated that had Sager remained unnoticed he would have frozen to death in another hour. Sam Hebscher, manager of the Nola Theatre, departed from his customary policy by giving a children's matinee Dec. 26, offering free soft drinks as an inducement to" patronage. At the final meeting" of the year of the Eastern Division of the Motion Picture Theatre Association of Ontario held last week in the ChateauLaurier, Ray Tubman of the Capitol was appointed chairman, and Morris Berlin of the Somerset, secretary. Retiring Chairman Steve McManus and Secretary Isser Singerman were instructed to forward to the Association's parent body in Toronto the information concerning the many places showing 16 mm. films in the Ottawa Vicinity, other than military posts. _ Final result of the action brought by Miss Llla Toplas of Ottawa against the Centre Theatre found the case dismissed by Justice Chevrier last week in Osgoode Hall, Toronto. The Somerset Theatre, operated by Morris Berlin was fined $100 and costs last week by Magistrate Strike for making false returns with intent to evade payment of excise tax of $75 from receipts between Sept. 17 and Nov. 18.
