Description:: Established in 1933 by Charles 'Chick' Lewis, who previously edited the 'Manager's Round Table' section in Quigley's MOTION PICTURE HERALD. Lewis originally called his new publication SHOWMEN'S ROUND TABLE, but after a lawsuit from Quigley, he changed the title to SHOWMEN'S TRADE REVIEW (STR). Over the next two decades, STR proved to be a formidable competitor to Quigley's HERALD and steadily grew in circulation. It's easy to see why exhibitors wanted to subscribe. STR's editorial voice, reviews of features and shorts, 'Box Office Slant' tips for how to promote movies, and concise and well organized 'Booking Guides' made it a trustworthy and highly useful magazine for exhibitors. -- Eric Hoyt, 2014

Warner, executive producer for "Tomorrow Is Another Day," a W. R. Burnett story which Raoul Walsh will direct with Robert Buckner producing for Warner BrosThis will be the first screen teaming of the Humphrey Bogarts since their marriage. The first was "To Have and Have Not" and the second, "The Big Sleep," as yet unreleased. K-B Will Build a 1000-Seater in Its First Invasion of Maryland A new theatre to be known as the Flower, with a seating capacity of 1000 will be erected in the vicinity of Takoma Park, Maryland, by K-B Theatres, it has been announced by Fred S. Kogod, president. The neighborhood has thousands of new residents and the need for a theatre is great, Kogod stressed in making the announcement. A shopping center, a parking lot for 1000 cars and a nursery will also be included in the construction. Flynn in 'Stallion Road' Errol Flynn will be starred in "Stallion Road," the screen version of the new Stephen Longstreet novel recently purchased by Warner Bros. William Faulkner has been assigned to the' screenplay, which Alex Gottlieb will produce. Bond Poster The Liberty Theatre in Zanesville, Ohio, used a novel poster idea for their engagement of "Conflict." Copy on the poster, which the police put up in 500 important spots in the town, read : Buy An Extra War Bond and see "Conflict" through ! Studio Sets 'Junior Miss' Ads Through a national ad tieup arranged by Harry Brand, studio publicity head of 20th-Fox, "Junior Miss" coupled with Peggy Ann Garner, the star, dominated a multi-color, full-page advertisement of the Quaker Ooats Company which ran in the coast-to-coast Metropolitan Sunday Papers Group, last Sunday. Reporter Role for Murdock Tim Murdock, who played Van Johnson's co-pilot in "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo," has been awarded the role of a newspaper reporter in MGM's "The Hoodlum Saint," which stars William Powell. G-B Filming Battle of Arnhem' Gaumont-British has started the filming in Holland of the Battle of Arnhem. All residents of the area are taking part in the film with German prisoners, captured German materials and British troops aiding in the re-staging of the battle. Music Hall's 850,000 on 'Adano' Twentieth Century-Fox's "A Bell for Adano" played to nearly 850,000 paid admissions during its six weeks' run at the Radio City Music Hall, Gus Eyssell, managing director, reported to the company. Kathryn Grayson Set for 'Clouds' Kathryn Grayson has been set by MGM for the lead role of Marilyn Miller in " 'Til the Clouds Roll By," which will be produced by Arthur Freed. Robert Walker has been penciled in for the role of Jerome Kern.
