The people of India are enthusiastic movie fans and when their purchasing power increases, as it surely will, they may provide one of the greatest film markets of the world, according to F. P. Young, manager of the India branch of Western Electric Company, Ltd. Mr. Young recently returned to this country on leave after five years in India.
"At present there are only 2,000 cinemas in India for a population of over 400 millions,"
says Mr. Young, "but all theatres are wired for sound and over half use American equipment. He gives credit to the Indian government for a compulsory educational film program. To improve the education of the masses, the government produces films on such subjects as methods of agriculture, industry, and hygiene, and requires every cinema to show one of the films on every program.

Movie Trailers Via Television
Klaus Landsberg, director of television programs at Hollywood's W6XYZ, the Television Productions, Inc. West Coast outlet, will begin making special film trailers on Paramount pictures for telecasting over his station in the near future according to reports from the coast. Trailers plugging films can be expected to become a steady broadcast diet as outlets and home receivers increase in number.
Western Electric Export to Distribute Century Projectors
W. D. Hausler, vice-president of the Century Projector Corp., has announced completion of contractual arrangements with the Western Electric Export Corp. for the exclusive distribution of Century projectors, accessories and replacement parts in all countries of the world with the exception of Canada and U. S. A. This export organization is a subsidiary of Western Electric Co. The Dominion Sound Equipments Ltd. distribute Century products in Canada and in the U. S. are represented by Independent Theatre Supply Dealers. Further expansion of the Century Projector Corp. is indicated in view of progress made within the past six years with their single and double shutter 35-mm. projectors.
Raibourn Heads TBA Awards Group
Paul Raibourn, president of Television Productions, Inc., Paramount Pictures subsidiary, and a member of the board of directors of the TBA (Television Broadcasters Assoc.) has been named chairman of the Awards Committee for 1945. Raibourn held this same post in 1944 and his committee is responsible for the designation of leading scientists, engineers and producers for annual awards which are comparable in the television field to the Academy Awards in motion picture industry.
New House for Larksville
Mrs. Joseph Emashowsky has awarded the construction contract for a new theatre on Courtdale Road, Larksville, Pa., to he completed in 120 zvorking days. House will be of concrete block and steel, acoustic treated interior, parking provisions for patrons, etc.
Norwich, Conn., to Have New Theatre
The E. L. Realty Corp., Norwich, Conn., Joseph Comrack, president, has purchased the old Strand Theatre and Olympic Hall property. The Strand was condemned in 1944 as an upstairs theatre which was declared unsafe. Charles H. Abramowitz, New Haven architect, is preparing plans for renovation of the building into 1060 seat theatre, 800 main floor, 260 balcony.
