FlJWOR ECONOMY Gedris Sees Normal Chair Supply Soon A brighter-than-to-be-expected future for those in need of theatre chairs is indicated by William Gedris, president of Ideal Seating Company, Grand E ipids, Mich., in a statement just made to Showmen's Trade Review. "Now that our war contracts have been terminated and our plant is being cleared of Government inventory, all our efforts are directed to reconversion to peacetime production of theatre chairs," said Mr. Gedris. "There are three prime factors confronting every chair manufacturer : the securing of materials, employment of trained and adequate labor, and the announcement of satisfactorily adjusted prices from the OPA. The materials factor should offer no obstacles for Ideal, as we have been in the process of securing the needed materials to resume theatre chair production for some time. Many of our peacetime employees have returned and we expect many more to be at their former jobs within the next 30 days. "Possibly the most difficult angle facing the resumption of chair manufacturing will be securing a satisfactorily adjusted price from OPA, although we anticipate that it will be forthcoming shortly. "It will be the policy of the Ideal Seating Company to allot a portion of the early production to each and every Ideal dealer throughout the United States, so as to fairly and equitably supply chairs to all communities," said Mr. Gedris. "Ideal has been fortunate in so far that we have been able to procure materials which will permit the resumption of the manufacture of even the finest type of prewar quality theatre chairs. Since American theatremen have been so patient and understanding of the problems which have confronted seating manufacturers Special blend of pure vegetable oils refined and colored for use-in wet or dry poppers. SIOUX CITY, IOWA UOUYflMT •AMERICA'S f INEST POP CORN SEASONING, during the war, we feel that it is only proper that we confine all of our production efforts to chairs for theatres. "Arrangements have been made in our engineering department so that those who are to start early construction of new theatres can immediately get planning service from Ideal. With their seating requirements made known now, their needs can be filled in ample time for installation before anticipated openings. "Expanded plant facilities will permit Ideal to produce chairs at such an accelerated ratethat normal production should soon be attained with the requirement of theatres being filled in the customary time. "Ideal's forthcoming chairs will embody a number of exclusive patented features. Samples are already on display in the showrooms of all Ideal dealers, where they may now by seen by theatremen," said Mr. Gedris. Altec Field Men Report Theatres Planning Improvements in Sound Reports from the Altec Field Personnel indicate that many exhibitors have extensive plans for fall renovations in theatres throughout the country, and special attention is being given the improvement of sound reproducing, equipment in order to take advantage of improved recordings developed by the West Coast studios. Overall surveys are now being made to establish the optimum output quality of present sound reproducing systems so that all benefits achieved from higher efficiencies of new loudspeaker systems may be retained for better over-all sound results. This renewed interest for better sound on the part of the theatre owners has resulted in many new deals being consummated for Altec Service, as signified by service agreements recently received from the following theatres : Lowrey, Russellville, Ark. ; New Royal, Atkins, Ark. ; Petit Jean, Merilton, Ark. ; State and Palace, Thomasville, N. C, and Joy, Kaplan, La., and a score of other theatres. W. E. Export Displays Postwar Sound System Closeups of the Westrex Master reproducer and the Hydro Flutter Suppressor, which attracted particular attention of projectionists and theatremen when displayed in New York last week by Western Electric Export Corporation in connection with the company's convention of managers. The photo above shows the simplicity of film threading and notable features — pre-amplifier in upper right, Hydro Flutter Suppressor — which latter is shown in closeup at right. This device, which the company declares set a new mark for low content of j mechanical flutter. The new sound system is one of the chief items in the complete line of theatre equipment WE Export is offering in the foreign field.
