10 SHOWMEN'S TRADE REVIEW October 20, 1945 51* ^Je returned Any men or. «er< t© be stWttit«re <Vict° ^ min»«t,Mre Show • Let's Do It Again! — Harry C Arthur, Jr. Central Regional Chairman We of the motion picture industry are all keenly cognizant of the fact that we face our biggest job in putting the Victory Loan campaign over the top. With the war's end, a definite lethargic attitude toward backing the country's treasury became prevalent and this can only be overcome by each and every one of us putting forth all of the effort at our command to insure the ultimate success of the coming Victory Loan. Let us all forget our personal trials and tribulations and put our collective shoulders together in the greatest battle we have ever had to win. No industry in the nation boasts a record comparable to ours, from the turbulent days before Pearl Harbor through the years to final victory. Let us once again prove the power of the motion picture industry by combining our efforts in making the victory loan a smashing success. Pull every trick out of the tried and proven showman's bag and open up a new bag with every idea you can possibly put forth. Let the War Activities Committee of the Motion Picture Industry take its place for all time among the most potent organizations which brought victory to our United States of America. Let's go, fellow showmen. In every region of the country, in every State, in every county, in every city, in every township, in every hamlet — let's all smash that line from now until December 8 for a decisive victory. ke It The Best Drive — Abram F.Myers General Counsel Allied States Association The Victory Loan Campaign ought to be a final Thanksgiving drive. Everybody should give everything he's got as a tribute to those in the Armed forces, such as Jimmy Stewart, who did everything on his own and came up from the ranks. The industry should be proud of him and there should be no stone unturned to make this drive the greatest industry event. Surely there is the best of manpower available to do it, and it would be a happy Thanksgiving for which we would all be proud. e Know Job, Let's Do It — Sam Pinanski Nezv England Regional Chairman With seven successful War Loan Drives under our belts, we of the motion picture industry have had sufficient experience to know the "ins and outs" of campaign procedure down to the last detail. It's like a football team which has been through the same play again and again until the players know every last move and motion and are real veterans of the game. So it is with us on this, our last play. We've got the signals and it's up to each man to do his part in accordance with the abilities of which he proved himself capable in the Grass Roots Seventh. It's perfection and teamwork that counts in this or any other game, and if each player on the team carries out his assignment, then success will be assured. owmanship Will Deliver — -John J. Friedl Midzvest Regional Chairman We all have a job ahead of us — every exhibitor — every distributor — and every one of us on the national committee. The Victory Loan is going to be tough, but the job is going to be done in typical showman style and this last bond drive will finish in a blaze of glory. We are fortunate, indeed, to have the great leadership of Si Fabian, who together with Max Cohen, Chick Lewis, Oscar Doob and Charles Reagan are working night and day to provide those of us in the field with everything we need. The enthusiasm that is going into this job is evident on all sides. The response of those given assignments is spontaneous and eager. Distribution, organized right down to the bookers in every town, will deliver a record of exhibitor cooperation never reached in any previous drive. Exhibitors everywhere are submitting new and fresh ideas to sell bonds. United — coordinated — and fighting — the industry will deliver a job on the Victory Loan that will go down in history as tops! Rural Exhibitors Key-Men A very special "mission" has been assigned by the U. S. Treasury to the small rural exhibitors of the nation during the Victory Loan drive. "The little, small-town, cross-roads, rural movie man becomes a key-factor in this bond drive," said Oscar A. Doob, campaign director, after a conference with War Finance Division leaders in Washington. "The Treasury has a definite problem to solve during the Victory Loan and is asking the small, country movie theatres to help solve it. "It is estimated by Treasury statisticians that there will be some $18,000,000,000 (billions) of harvest money in the hands of farmers during the period of the Victory Loan. The Treasury is eager to tap that vast mountain of money. The farmer is not as easy to reach with personal solicitation as is the city-dweller. It is hoped that rural movie houses will be made the rallying point for War Finance workers assigned to the country areas. Bond rallies for farmers, special farmer bond premieres and other events are urged as cooperation in these rural communities."
