Established in 1933 by Charles 'Chick' Lewis, who previously edited the 'Manager's Round Table' section in Quigley's MOTION PICTURE HERALD. Lewis originally called his new publication SHOWMEN'S ROUND TABLE, but after a lawsuit from Quigley, he changed the title to SHOWMEN'S TRADE REVIEW (STR). Over the next two decades, STR proved to be a formidable competitor to Quigley's HERALD and steadily grew in circulation. It's easy to see why exhibitors wanted to subscribe. STR's editorial voice, reviews of features and shorts, 'Box Office Slant' tips for how to promote movies, and concise and well organized 'Booking Guides' made it a trustworthy and highly useful magazine for exhibitors. -- Eric Hoyt, 2014

The scanning slit covers all existing tvpes of 100 mil and 200 mil tracks without moving optics or film. Visual inspection of scanning is provided for. 3 It's easy to adjust accurately the film start mark to scanning beam. 4 The method of vernier synchronization provides accuracy of better than one sprocket hole. 5 During threading, Automatic Loop Setter enables you to lock movable rollersto mid-point operating position, thus assuring accurate setting of loop. 6 Vou're assured of low distortion by highest quality photocell amplifier. Plug-in mounting is handy. 7 Re-winding is simplified. Automatic Re-wind Cutoff has separate motor, which cuts off when film is rewound. Engineers of Western Electric's Electrical Research Products Division talked with studio technicians — studied their re-recording methods and difficulties — found out where previous equipment could be improved. Then they designed the RA-1251 to meet the technician's needs and specifications. It marks a tremendous step ahead in appearance and compactness — in efficiency, accuracy, speed and ease of operation — in quality of reproduction!
