Established in 1933 by Charles 'Chick' Lewis, who previously edited the 'Manager's Round Table' section in Quigley's MOTION PICTURE HERALD. Lewis originally called his new publication SHOWMEN'S ROUND TABLE, but after a lawsuit from Quigley, he changed the title to SHOWMEN'S TRADE REVIEW (STR). Over the next two decades, STR proved to be a formidable competitor to Quigley's HERALD and steadily grew in circulation. It's easy to see why exhibitors wanted to subscribe. STR's editorial voice, reviews of features and shorts, 'Box Office Slant' tips for how to promote movies, and concise and well organized 'Booking Guides' made it a trustworthy and highly useful magazine for exhibitors. -- Eric Hoyt, 2014

NIGHT HAS A THOUSAND EYES (Para.) Drama. Principals: Edward G. Robinson, Gail Russell, John Lund. Director, John Farrow. Plot: An ex-vaudeville mental wizard predicts that a girl will die at a certain hour just as he had previously accurately forecast the deaths of her parents, two of his oldest and best friends. Her fiance suspects a blackmail and murder plot and notifies police. As the deadline for death approaches, there is a -surprising, although logical, conclusion. RIDE THE PINK HORSE (U-I) Drama. Principals: Robert Montgomery, Wanda Hendrix, Andrea King. Director, Robert Montgomery. Plot: An embittered war veteran comes to a New Mexico town to extract vengeance and blackmail from a crook whom he had formerly served. He is led into a trap, stabbed and beaten, and is saved by a native girl and the proprietor of a mery-go-round.
