New Theatres St. Louis — Interests in this city represented by Mannie Schermer recently bought a 25-acre site in the Loves Park district of Rockford, III., for a drive-in theatre to handle 750 to 1,000 cars. Cost is estimated at around $100,000. Shelby, N. C. — The new theatre and business block at Lawndale, constructed for T. J. R. Clark, Fallston druggist, and his brother, M. I. Clark, is about ready to open. Cost of the structure is estimated at $50,000. Theatre is modernistic with latest equipment, with a balcony for the colored trade. Milwaukee — VVonewoc Theatres, Inc. of Wonewoc, Wis., is taking bids on the construction of a one-story theatre in that city. Weiler & Strang of Madison are the architects. Milwaukee — Earl Hall recently announced at a meeting of the Sauk City Men's Club that that Wisconsin city will have a new theatre this fall. Hartford, Conn. — ^An amusement center to include a theatre is being planned in Westboro, Mass., by Joseph Pezzella, of Worcester, Mass. The center, in addition to the theatre, will also have an amusement park containing mechanical rides, and an outdoor ballroom. A plan for a prive-in theatre in Haverhill, Mass., has been submitted to that city's Zoning Board by Sarkas Arakelian. Sponsor of the project is William R. Davis, also of that city. Hartford, Conn. — Rumors in the trade have it that a national theatre syndicate is negotiating with a Hartford real estate firm for space in a planned block at Farmington Ave. and Prospect Ave., suburban West Hartford. Space would be used, it was said, for a theatre. The property is already zoned for business, and is owned by Irving Katz and others of Hartford. -Atlanta — John Gazes and Louis Soult are building a 500-car drive-in theatre on the 0])elika Highway near Auburn, Ala. Atlanta — J. W. Burchfield, who operates portable equipment in several school auditoriums in the vicinity of Oakman, Ala., is building a theatre in that town. Brenkert projectors and lamps and RCA sound will be used. St. Louis — The members of I.O.O.F Scott Lodge 702 of Bluffs, 111., and its Rebekah auxiliary plan the erection of a film theatre here near the Lodge building. Ogden Sears, Don Mullens and other committee members hope to raise $10,000 by popular .subscription.
