Would Limit Marquee Horizontal Advertising
A revision of the Cleveland building code under Emile Zende, city expert, would limit the horizontal advertising above theatre marquees to five feet. Theatre owners claim the average space used is 11 feet and that a reduction would effect a hardship on them. Ernest Schwartz, president of the Cleveland Motion Picture Exhibitors Association, is representing the independent exhibitors in an effort to prove the impracticability of the proposed limitation, which is confined to marquees that extend over the sidewalk. Where the theatre stands considerably back of the building line and the marquee is not over the walking area, there are no restrictions suggested. — CLE.
