Radio's Art Linkletter will be the emcee. Herbert Knapp, who for five years has covered the Andes for film companies and working with the U. S. Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs, the Disney studios and seven Latin-American countries, will give a lecture and color films on "Travel Trails of the Andes" in the University of Utah's Master Minds series. Hobart Brownell, representing a Hollywood film studio, has just made color movies of the scenic beauties in Provo, Utah, to be included in a forthcoming picture, "Utah, the Rainbow Land." During the summer he traveled through the state photographing many other points of interest. About 100 copies of the print will be made and shown throughout the United States. Columbia Director of Exchange Operations H. C. Kaufman has returned to New York after conferences on new product with local Manager Bill Seib. Friends here of Hollywood Film Writer Harvey H. Gates, a native of Salt Lake City, were saddened by news of his death in his Los Angeles home from a heart, attack. HARTFORD Jack A. Sanson, manager, Warner State, Manchester, Conn., is Manchester United Nations Week campaign committee chief. Yvonne Aubin of the Warner Regal, Hartford, married U. S. Navy Man Eustice Anderson, of New London, Conn. Jack Terry of the Bus'hnell, Hartford, got out of Hartford Hospital, after many weeks' stay. Bill Daugherty, assistant manager of the Webb Playhouse, Wethersfield, Conn., is back on the job after recovering from auto accident injuries. Trade was extending regards to Monk Maloney, manager, Loew-Poli Theatre, Worcester, Mass., on the birth of a grandson. This city's originator of neighborhood theatres, Joe Glassman, 66, died at his home last week. Glassman, who retired from business about three years ago, had_ operated a drug store in Hartford's south end, and, in addition to organizing other neighborhood theatres in the city, he founded and built the Rialto Theatre. DES MOINES Howard Brookings, Oakland, la., theatre operator and former president of the AlliedIndependent Theatre Owners of Iowa and Nebraska, was elected a state representative to the Iowa legislature in the recent general election. Running on the Republican ticket, Brookings survived the Democratic trend to win out. Francis Gillon, manager of the Paramount, Cedar Rapids, la., is planning an extensive birthday celebration of the house's 20th anniversary during November. Dick Gray, National Screen Service shipper, was married recently to LaVonne Luther of Des Moines. Clark Baker has returned to his duties as Columbia manager after spending a week in the hospital.
