E-18 SHOWMEN'S TRADE REVIEW, November 12, 1949 THEATRE EQUIPMENT GUIDE Current Information for the Buyers of Theatre Equipment and Accessories Drive-In Refreshment Vendors "Buffeteria," pushed by hand facilitates sale of wide variety of refreshments to drivein patrons. This cart has both hot and cold compartments, preheated or pre-cooled, which retain their temperature over substantial periods of time by i-eason of insulated construction. Sterno "canned" heaters and one electrical heater are furnished with the carts. Sign plates can be changed according to types of merchandise offered. Plastic display sign at top of rod is lighted from within by means of batteries. "Walky Fountain" on top of cart in this picture dispenses iced orange drink; another can be substituted (or added at other side, of cart) for vending hot coffee. These "Walky Fountains" are also available separately, fitted with straps so vendor can carry one strapped around his or her shoulders. Manufacturer is Walky Service Co. (#1) Ticket Box Designed by Theatreman W. H. Hoffman, owner of the Lamar Theatre at Arthur, Illinois, designed this ticket box, which is available in crinkle finish of gold, silver, copper or bronze at $21.87, F.O.B., Arthur, 111., or in any other color at $1.25 extra. Theatreman Hoffman designed the box when one department of a local factory slowed down, and he wanted to keep the payroll going full strength "because it helps me when they are working steadily." Box is made of 20gauge steel, weighs 43 pounds, and measures 12"xl2"x43". There is no bin in the bottom drawer that stubs can miss; they all fall into the drawer. Apparent flare at top of the ticket box is a photographic illusion ; actually the sides are perfectly vertical. (#2) Plastic Wall Covering Here pictured is one of the many patterns in which Varlar Stainproof Wall Covering is manufactured for theatre and other uses. The material, product of United Wallpaper, Inc., is available in either paper backing or cloth backing, and is designed to be applied like wallpaper. Grease and oil spots, pencil and crayon marks, ink stains and ether common forms of soil are readily removed, the makers assert, without any damage to the wall covering. The material is described as mildew-proof, non-supporting to vermin, and resistant to water, steam, abrasion, and common cleansing agents. Varlar wall covering can be obtained in plain tints as well as in color patterns containing as many as 13 separate colors. (#3) Soda Fountain Unit Latest product of the Soda Fountain Division of Liquid Carbonic Corporation, this 5'6" Bobtail stresses sanitation especially. Stainless steel and round-corner construction, cold storage compartment without seams in which food can lodge, base six inches from the floor for easier mopping, are among its features in this respect. Wide choice of merchandise, and convenience and flexibility in operation, are incorporated by means of six syrup jars, four crushed fruit jars, sliding chipped-ice pan and shelves in the cold storage compartment. (#4) Aluminum Safety Ladders Built of light-weight aluminum alloy, and insulated against slippage and electricity by rubber pads %-inch deep at the bottom of each leg, two styles of step-ladders produced by O'Connor Company are available in heights ranging from 3 to 12 feet. Principal difference between the two styles is that one has steps on both sides and no pail rack while the other has a pail rack and steps on only one side. Both styles are available in heights of 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 feet; and the double-step ladder in heights of 10 and 12 feet also. (#5)
