CHICAGO.—It is a matter worthy of note that during the present Lenten season the theatrical managers of Chicago have been presenting the best attractions on their list. It has been customary at this particular season of the year, so far as Chicago is concerned, to supply the amusement-seeking public with a line of attractions lacking in novelty and in many instances more or less threadbare. Conditions have ’ changed to such an extent, however, that the bookings for the Lenten period have been made with a view to attracting the public to the theatre rather than keeping it away. The recent season of grand opera proved one of the most successful in the history of the Auditorium, and the offerings in other playhouses up to the present have proved sufficiently meritorious to warrant the liberal patronage that has been bestowed upon the leading theatres of the city. As if to keep up the standard set during the early part of the season, the managers of Chicago theatres announce many of their choicest offerings during the remaining weeks of the Lenten period.
