“Dickey’’ Cochran Israel) Harrie .....-++ecveescese Thomas Guise
Chicken Casey is a delightful film.
It is blessed with a story so nicely carried through that its Interest never once lags. There is nothing involved, nothing dragged in, no red-eyed climaxes. It is a clever story that goes straight through from beginning to end and leaves a pleasant taste. Chicken Casey Is up at the top of the ladder.
The story goes something like this, with Dorothy Dalton starring as both Chicken Casey and the actress, Mise Marberry:
Miss Marberry, playing what looks like Shakespeare, wants very much to play the part of Rags, the heroine of Everett Hale's new book. Rags is an underworld type, and Dickey Cochran, a dramatic critic, declares Hale knows nothing of the life nor the characters be has drawn. Hale refuses to have Miss Marberry play the part, in case he dramatizes the book, because she fails to look the part of Rags, and he imagines she can play nothing except queenly roles.
Dickey takes him to a Bowery dance ball, phoning Miss Marberry in the meantime to meet them there, dressed as one of the girls of the place.
She interests Hale and follows him home. He becomes certain she is just the character for Rags. Later when he discovers he has been tricked by Miss Marberry he is burt and angry.
The play is a success. Miss Marberry, this time as Miss Marberry, follows bim home and Hale finds that his anger is not anger, but love.
There are five satisfying reels, most commendably put together.—L. H.
THREADS OF FATE
Metro five-part picture. Released January 22.
THE CAST: Dorothea, the “Gift of God’’.......Viola Dana Jim Gregory Tom Wentworth Dr. Grant Hunter .......-.+++. Richard Tucker Marquis Giovanni del Carpavacchi..Fred Jones Sarah Wentworth .......+.«+Helen Strickland Marcella .cccccccccesececccccccces Nellie Grant
A disappointment in five reels is this Threads of Fate which they bave saddled on little Viola Dana to do her best with. It is wretchedly put together, ordinary in all its appointments, and comes to an end leaving not a small portion of the story dangling in midair.
It is anattractive in plot and artificial in execution. Its one redeeming feature is Miss Dana's prettiness, and that is given only a few satisfactory opportunities for explaitation.— L. H.

Written and directed by Bertram Bracken.
The Primitive Call holds your attention to the last foot. Not because of its originality— we have all seen pictures of a man being duped by 4 pretty-faced girl—but because we have bot seen this particular plot worked out with greater skill and care to details as in the Present case in a long time. Fritz Leiber's portrayal of the Indian with a college education is excellent, and Giadys Coburn, as the society butterfly, who secures the ‘‘papers,”’ does her part well. The supporting cast is well chosen, too, both for ability to act as well as look the part. The action is swift, ‘ure and of satisfying continuity, and the film ie exquisitely tinted.
Retty Malcolm, daughter of a wealthy promoter, is used to having her own way and doing what she likes. In her father’s eyes she’s a* Useless as a butterfly. To prove that she can do other things besides tango, she goes West to make love to an Indian, who is the legal adviser of a tribe of Indians, and Retty’s father is desirous of securing the land owned by the tribe. She makes love to Chief Elkhorn and secures bis signature to the deed. Then she turns him down by calling him a cruel ‘avage. Elkhorn'’s heart is broken and he is east ont hy bis tribe. As retribution the tribe kidnaps the child of the Western representative of the land company, and they only surrender it “flor they receive the deed back, which Retty has secured from Elkhorn.—R. M.
