ANOTHER VIEW BY AN ACTOR
Why do actors who are well able to pay their way to join a show usually insist on the manager advancing a ticket?
It is because of the large number of “shoe-string’’ managers who pocket all the profits a company makes and close with the winnings in their possession at the first sign of bad business. trying to get about three or four actors to join at their own expense to fill one vacancy, and after selecting the most desirable let the others go with some kind of excuse, but no compensation.
Other managers who have scarcely enough to reach the next town expect actors to come on in time to “close” and many cases have been known where they “blew up” before they ever reached the town
