—— oN este meine y omen, meee 64 The Billboard JUNE 16, 1917 JUVENILE STAR HEADS “U” PROGRAM FOR NEXT WEEK Jack Mulhall, in The Fire of Youth, Tops the List of Universal Releases—Other Features Show High Standard of Film Productions New York, June 11.—Jack Mulball, popular juvenile star, is featured in the Butterfly fiveact drama, The Fire of Youth, which heads the Universal program for the week of June 18. The story was written by Willis Woods, the scenario by Karl Coolidge, and the production was made under the direction of Elmer Clifton, one of the new directors at Universal City. Mulhall is seen in a role different from any he has herefore portrayed, and which affords him wide opportunities to display his screen versatility. As the happy-go-lucky, shiftless son of a millionaire, whose escapades bring down upon him the wrath of his father, he wins the sympathies of his ,audience by his skillful handling of the role. His father is about to disinherit him when he learns that his son bas cleaned out a tough resort in a rough and tumble fight. This awakens the father to the possibilities of the boy, and he sends him on a dangerous mission which takes him into all sorts of thrilling experiences. The action thruout is rapid, the story full of genuine suspense and the photography and settings of an exceptionally high standard. In the cast supporting the star are Donna Drew, who is to play leading roles in Butterfly Pictures and who was formerly known as Donna Moon; Ann Kroman, Hayward Mack and other well-known film players. The Fire of Youth will be presented Monday, June 18. On the same day will be released Jilted in Jail, a Nestor comedy featuring that celebrated trio of funmakers, Eddie Lyons, Lee Moran and Edith Roberts. The feature for Tuesday, June 19, will be the Gold Seal three-act melodrama, The Brand of Hate, starring Tina Marshall. This production is remarkable for a three-reel subject, and surpasses many multiple reel subjects. The photoplay was adapted for the screen by John C. Brownell, from the story of Elizabeth Burbridge, and was airected by Edwin Stevens, the noted stage and screen siar. The story hinges about a weird birthmark on che face of the heroine, which shows itself only when the girl is under tense emotions, ana forms the basic idea for one of the most ingenious photoplays ever presented. Pat Rooney, the eccentric comedicn, famed as a vaudeville headliner, is featured in the Victor comedy, A Pirate Bold, the other Tuesday offering. The chief offering for Wednesday, June 20, is the L-Ko two-act comedy, Where Is My Che-ild, with Dan Russell and Gladys Varden in the principal roles. Other releases of this date are the Laemmle drama, Bartered Youth, with William Mong and Gretchen Lederer, and the regular issue of the Universal Animated Weekly, with all the latest news in pictorial form. Helen Grayson’s Strategy, a two-act society drama, will be presented under the Rex brand on Thursday, June 21. Irene Hunt, Malcolm Blevens and L. C. Shumway play the leading roles. Ruth Stonehouse, in the Victor comedy, Puppy Love, is another release of this date. She Married Her Husband, a two-reel Victor ANITA STEWART ILL Now Confined in a Sanitarium New York, June 9.—Anita Stewart, the Greater Vitagraph star, is in a sanitarium in Connecticut suffering from a temporary breakdown in health, and probably will not be able to resume her work for several weeks. Her collapse is due, indirectly, to an attack of typhoid fever, which she passed thru last summer, but is the direct result of overzealousness on her part. When she began to recuperate from the typhoid attack Miss Stewart, against the advice of ber pbysician and the wishes of the Vitagraph Company, returned to the studio before she had fully recovered her strength and insisted upon resuming her work. Since that time she has done several pictures, and on several occasions had been on the point of coliapse, but valiantly kept up her work. In addition to her duties at the studio Miss Stewart was active in behalf of the Actors’ Fund, and conducted a booth at the fair, but when that benefit closed she was forced to give in. On the advice of ber physician she went to a sanitarium in Connecticut and will remain there until she is thoroly rested and her health regained. comedy-drama, featuring Matt Moore and Jane Gail, is the leading release of Friday, June 22, Issue No, 24 of the Universal Screen Magazine will also appear on this date. For Saturday, June 23, the Bison two-act Western drama, Lone Larry, is the feature offering. This is a thrilling and interesting story of adventure written by Grant Carpenter and produced by Henry McRae. issue No. 6 of Universal Current Events and the Joker comedy, A Burglar’s Bride, with Gale Henry and Jack Dill, are other releases of this date, , On Sunday, June 24, the releases are the Power's split reel, Young Nick Carter, Detectiff, a comedy cartoon, and China’s Wonderland, a Dorsey Educational, and the Big U drama, The Two-Gun Parson, featuring W. C. Dowlan. During the week the fifteenth episode of The Voice on the Wire will be released. MACK WITH BLUEBIRD Chicago, June 9.—Irving Mack, heretofore known as (Kettering’s assistant in the Jones, Linick & Schaefer publicity office, is now publicity and advertising director of Bluebird films in the Chicago territory. TUCKER WITH MARINES Chicago, June 9%.—Richard Tucker, of the Edison Studios, has forsaken pictures and en listed in the 1. S.
