THEATRICAL AGENCY, ~ Wes Washington, D> G Editor The Billboard: It is my view pertaining to same. managers. way. Yours truly, SHOW BUSINESS IS A GAMBLE You might publish this, relative to sending tickets to performers. We hear a lot nowadays about unreliable managers and troupers. Of course it is only natural for people, especially some (both sides excepted), to holler when they get stung, but why not look at it as I do? I have been stung several times and yet I seldom have said a word about it, and I keep on sending money just the same, and when I do I bid it good-by and I am prepared to lose same, and, if I do, is it not worth that much to find out the person getting same? This show business is a gamble and good gamblers should be game. I for one am not afraid to advance money, for real troupers are honest as a rule and many times could not join without financial assistance. It is only the grafting few that are otherwise, just as there are grafting It is a 50-50 bet for either side. If a manager or a trouper should get stung why not call it picking a bad number and let it go at that? What good does it do to yell?
