REMLIN, Red Wing, Minnesota. jullod A MEMORY MITE By DOC WADDELL I look about and thrn the mists of human sense behold the speed and passing of every-day existence. So much that’s good, that’s lesson to struggling mortal man, that’s sweet and loving remembrance to ‘‘kith and kin,’’ is obscured and almost forgotten in the dizzy whirl of business and unthoughtfulness. Your friends and mine are gone be fore we are aware. Within past fortnight one known to mankind, in frigid wmne and tropic clime, to East and West, to all points, everywhere, passed on. His cherished, un tarnished name, when familiariy called—*BILLY’? McGOWN. His native place, where children render him song of purest praise, best evidence that he was clean and right with God and man—URBANA TOWN, Gifted was this splendid soul. He knew the magic of the pen, and passed away as he had lived—oldest dramatic critic, true and tried, of writer’s realm. He was strongly linked to nature’s beauty scenes and to the folk of stage and park, carnival and circus lot. Understanding well the art of photographic lens and print, he reveled in taking picture of every scene and personage of the profession worth while. So he leaves behind his life work of written, printed page and book, and the largest, best, most valuable and unexcelled collection of stage, park, carnival and circus pictures of which the world can boast. Upon each photograph that he made is found respective autograph. What a study! What a chain of history! What a rich heritage to the show world, to the sons and daughters of showfolk yet unborn! From the very moment that we, in the distant past, “RILLY’ McGOWN and I became stanch friends, If ever there was an_ unselfish unit of the living world it was this good, kind, generous, common man of TRBANA TOWN. He had it hard at times. He suffered, and, thru @ll,, bore up as a gladiator of the old school. If all for whom he did good turns had THOUGHT of him as moments whirled, and did for him as he would gladly have done for them with positions reversed, he would have had it nice, every want and wish fulfilled and gratified. Too late NOW. His eyes are curtained, his big heart rests forever, his voice is hushed, his pen is stilled, and the old camera, that made so much happiness and good cheer to the troupers on the way and near, has closed its door and shuttle upon the plate and light of day, and mutely whispers the real tribute of love and memory to its Master. How lonely must be the wife in the old home where they lived so long! In her widowhood she'll be much comforted by the knowledge that her husband was REAL, not counterfeit; a man of DEEDS, not words alone; friend to everything that breathes; a good man and GODLY. From everywhere unto her and all who mourn comes the glad refrain, the spiritual consolation, “NOT DEAD—JUST BEYOND!” grasped hands in introduction, FOR SALE—Deagan Una-Fon; 4% octaves; cost | WANTED—Young Man, not over 130 Tbs. for hand $700.00; good as new; also shipping casa Price for to-hand balancing act.
