The company playing here came from a city twice as large because Cedar Rapids enjoys a reputation of being a progressive city of discriminating taste. Coe College is one of the nine best colleges in the country. Our public schools have ime, browThe yon the Sherman Stock Company has added to the cultural and entertaining assets of the city. Not only local people, but many from surrounding towns have discovered that they may enjoy standard dramas and clever acting since Cedar Rapids has a stock company. The wonderful success of the moving picture as a means of public entertainment has made the theaters popular and necessary institutions. The revival of the speaking stage in Cedar Rapids will stimulate interest in the silent drama because it lends variety to app in this city. rae pine tog Bly is one of the oldest and one of the most fascinating instruments of artistic expression and enjoyment. But during recent years cities like Cedar Rapids have seen little of it. During the present year only a few good plays have come to Cedar Rapids. But a welcome revival of the speaking stage has struck us. The success of the Sherman Stock Company here this year will determine whether we will have a stock company here again next summer. But that is neither here nor there as far as this. writer is concerned.
