CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS AND THE CINEMA I like these kind of films because they are telling a story all the way through, and they nearly all have very good actors and actresses in the name parts. When I went to see the Song of Bernadette, with a friend, sitting next to me was a lady, who, whenever there was a sad part would sniff heartily or go 'T, Tut, T' or say 'what a pity', or 'Poor little thing', which rather spoilt the film for me. However I did enjoy the film immensely, even though it was rather morbid in parts. Fantasia was another film which I enjoyed very much because I enjoyed the music in it. 4. R.H. I go to the pictures quite often and even though I like the music, dancing, and colour of the musical films, I think the films that I enjoyed as a story, and which I liked best were not musicals but films based on clasical or good books. Fore instance Gone with the Wind was a film I shall never forget and even if it was shorter than the book it portrayed the characters nearly as well. Rebbecca was another film which was very good and which I enjoyed immensly, the book I have been told (I haven't read it) is not as good as the film. Song of Bernadette was a film where I think most of the acting except that of Ann Rever and Jennifer Jones and a few others was weak but the film, supported by these few good actors was good on the whole. I liked it (and also cried a bit). Pygmalion was also a very good film which I enjoyed. Of the more comic films I liked / Married a Witch in which there was very good acting and it was genuinely funny, the chief characters were acted by Veronica Lake and Frederick March. I don't care for Walt Disney films in general except for Bambi and Snow White which were very good, I hate Donald Duck and Pluto, etc. Even though I always like to see the good films especialy when I have read the book, and I remember them for a very long time, I often go to musicals. I usualy go to see the dancing and the dresses, but I am getting rather sick of Carmen Miranda who always dances the same kind of dance, and also of Aline Faye who sings with a very melancholy look on her face, and always seems to be jilted. On the whole I think that it is worth it to go to the pictures sometimes, because unless one is very fussy there is always some film to one's taste. 5. D.F. I like and generally enjoy a film that has a good story to it, not 100
