CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS AND THE CINEMA a silly, sloppy film that has to much of this kissing and cuddling in it. Mind you, I do like a bit of love story but not a lot of it. The kind of love that is shown by action. For example Rebecca. There was a story behind it. Laurence Olivier who married Joan Fontaine at the beginning of the film, was very much in love with her, but he did not show it by cuddling and kissing, he showed it by his actions and the look on his face, although he used to get angry and make her cry, but it was not because she had done anything wrong, but that she kept on reminding him of his previous wife Rebecca, who she thought he loved, but he really hated her as she was in love with another man, and also she was trying to blackmail him. Greer Garson is one of my favourite film stars. Others are Margaret Lockwood, Joan Fontaine, Phyllis Calvert, and a few more. The men are Walter Pidgeon, George Mursky, Dennis Morgan, but not many more. Lassie Come Home was a very lovely and yet pathetic film. Roddy McDowall is a very good little actor. Another of his films was My Friend Flicka which was also a sad but lovely film. 6. V.J. I like especially films about the life of people. I think it is nice to see the way they behave in their homes and to study their character. I prefer the story of someone who actually lived rather than a made up story. A film which I have seen and liked was the one of Handel and how he wrote the Messiah. Although it is a long time since I saw it I can still remember it. A recent film I saw was Song ofBernadette. I liked this very much. It delt a lot with her life round about the time she was sixteen and I think Jennifer Jones acted the part of a simple peasant girl very well. She had a very quick wit however and I think this was rather exaggerated after the simple home and uneducated parents she had. I liked also the story of Fanny by Gaslight. I think it was a very real story and it had many touching scenes. I also enjoyed Tom Brown's Schooldays. Although I like the whole life story very much I think the part where the person is about twelve to eighteen is the part I like most. 7. M.W. This Happy Breed A few weeks ago I went to see this film, which I enjoyed immensely. It was in good technicolor and by that I do not mean the awful, bright American technicolor that so many films are in. The 101
