CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS AND THE CINEMA five men in it who are hanging on a life belt when it is torpedoed. It relates certain incidents they can remember while waiting to be rescued. But it mainly deals with the life on a big ship in wartime. The second is about an elderly gentleman, who, while fishing in France, the Germans come, meets two children whom he is to take along to England, while travelling along he has many adventures, and meets almost every other minute some more children whom he takes along very unwillingly. At last they are seen on a boat going to England. The third is about a typical English family life in the 1940-41 blitz. And 49^ Parallel is about some German spies who while travelling in Canada get less and less in number till even the last is caught. All these four films are very good indeed. Then I like films based on novels. But as I know so many I will only attempt to describe one at all. The others are: Madame Curie, Blossoms in the Dust, Gone with the Wind, with Vivienne Leigh, Pygmalion by Shaw with Leslie Howard and Wendy Hiller, The Three Sisters with Bettie Davis, Fanny by Gaslight, Random Harvest, Jane Eyre with Joan Fontaine, Suspicion and lastly Pride and Prejudice with Greer Garson. This is about the Bennet family and their five worries. These worries are their daughters whom they do so wish to marry off. In the last scene these daughters all are either just married or just about to be married. The whole is very amusing, particularly the anxious mother! As for actors that I like they are without being in any particular order as follow: Charles Boyer, Bettie Davis, Greer Garson, Walter Pidgeon, Magaret O'brien, Deanna Durbin, Monty Wooly, Mickey Rooney, Judey Garland, Anne Stevens, Coleman, Noel Coward, Leslie Howard, Ginger Rogers, Joan Fontaine, Vivienne Leigh, and Wendy Hiller. All these are the sort of films I dislike, Murder films such as Sherlock Holmes or any other crimes films; crimes films such as Johnny Appolo and so forth; thrilling war films such as Dragon Seed, of underground movements (with a few exceptions); bad piano and concert playing; stupid fighting ones, with soldiers and muddles and silly love; cartoons only Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck; Jazz music and particularly Carmen Miranda and night clubs in films; cowboy films. But this is all I can possible say tonight or otherwise I would have enough to publish a whole book on films! 2. C.F. My Favourite Film Star Greer Garson is my favourite film star. 112
