CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS AND THE CINEMA thought that there was to much German in it, I think that they aught never to put foreign languages in films only English. I can put much more down but I am afraid that my homework period is over. 5. P.M. Of all the things I hate, I hate films with lots of kissing and love most. The films I like best are those with lots of murders and secret passages and moving panels, or a very funny one with Tommy Trinder, Tommy Handley or George Formby. Two of the best murders I have seen were The Cat and the Canary and One Body Too Many. The best funny picture Sailors Three with Tommy Trinder in. The Cat and the Canary and One Body Too Many were similar both were about wills of eccentric men who made conditions to them, in both cases somebody murdered the lawyer and saw the will, if it was not to their advantage they would try to stop the conditions being fulfilled. Sailors Three was about three sailors who managed to get into all sorts of trouble at last they got drunk and boarded a German ship by mistake. I think that there are too many love films now, all about the same thing and as untrue to life as possible, giving people wrong ideas about it. Although what it is really like to be in love I do not know, and I do not want to know yet. War films I do not like so much they are mostly very sad about people losing their relatives, and friends. One of the best war films was In Which We Serve it was wonderful. That is my idea of films, but many disagree with me. 6. Y.J. I am very fond of films and I think they are an enjoyable entertainment. I can go to the pictures and really enjoy myself. Some people may disagree with me and say films are silly. Some of them are but I think on the whole they are very good. My favorite type of film is a true story of war especially about the R.A.F. I went to see Target for Tonight, I thought was wonderful. I went away and I saw it there again. The way in which it was made was what I admired, and I like to think we are able to learn a little about what the men of the R.A.F. are doing for us. The other type of film I like is a crime. It takes you away from the thought of war, which sometimes does get one down (war I mean). I rather like 'The Saint' films staring George Sanders as the Saint. It gives one a thrill when the hero is caught and you think there is no way of escape for him, then far away you here the 115
