CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS AND THE CINEMA sonally I think they are silly because I think there is nothing in the film except softness. Stars that I do not like are Charles Boyer, Clarke Gable and some ladies I do not like are Judy Garland and Shirley Temple. Films I Like to See 15. T.H. The films I like best are historic. I do not mind romance with a story or murder behind it, but I am not very keen on films like Greenwich Village with Carman Miranda. Films like this are like concerts which go too far with jazz. The best historic films I have seen are ones that have lovely Maureen O'Hara as the star. Films like The Black Swan a story about pirates and the dashing Henry Jones who was made governer of Jamaica. When he was made the governer he gave up being a pirate so did his followers, but some of the gang became mixed up with another great dashing pirate who was owner of the ship Black Swan. It ended with the death for the owner and the marriage of one of Henry Jones' men and Maureen O'Hara. Another film starring Maureen O'Hara is Buffalo Bill. A story about Red Indians and their hatred to the Palefaces. I love murder films. Films with mystery always the unexpected man or woman being the murderer. One Body Too Many is very good. It is a murder with comedy, romance and Mystery mixed up together. It is about a man who had died and left a will to his two nieces, nephew, cousins the butler and the palour maid. If his body is buried other than where the Stars will shine on him, the will would be reversed. Only One person knew where it was but he had no intention of trying to reverse it. Nearly everybody except one niece (who had been warned to leave the house but did not) tried to reverse the will the result was two murders and two attempted murders which did not succeed. The murderer, being the man that had only a dollar entitled to him according to the will, met his end, by falling off the top of a tower (when he was trying to escape after being found that he was the murderer) thousands of feet into space to end on a precipice with horrible crags and rocks. The only thing, I think spoils some of the films, is the love of too much jazz. I think it spoils films which otherwise would be quite good. I like Shirley Temple films, I don't think they are quite so good now. The best one I have seen is The Little Princess. 123
